red leather

01/07/2011, ankle boots, balenciaga, london, zara

(Zara silk top, ba&sh leather skirt, Topshop boots, Balenciaga bag, Ray-ban sunglasses)

I picked up this leather skirt (yes, essentially a loincloth) in both red and black while I was in Paris, black was an obvious yes but the red one seemed like I could have fun with it too. Wore this on what was apparently the hottest day of the year in London. The humidity makes these summer days so much gnarlier than California’s! I couldn’t stand to keep my hair down for longer than it took to snap these photos. And I’m not even going to try to describe the conditions in the Tube on the way there. A couple days before this I was an intricate multiple knit and shearling combination to keep warm and even that was barely even doing the trick. Good thing I brought (or..bought while over here) options. Oh, and I have no idea why it looks like I put in purple hair extensions here, swear to you no such thing happened.

Cooling off in the shade in Green Park. London is amazing, so much to do here at every second and everyone is so nice! The first day I met with some lovely people from Topshop for breakfast and they convinced me – I’m definitely going to make it a point to come back for London Fashion Week in a couple months.

heart shaped box

29/06/2011, tokyo, zara

(Zara top, secondhand shorts)

Started to screw around these sunglasses (things lying around on random shelves can be so interesting discovered mid-space out) while I was getting my makeup done at the Elle Girl Japan office…apparently I looked a little too gleeful about them because they told me to just take them. Oops..err thank you Elle Girl! Anyway, made for some fun shots from our 25th floor perch at the Cerulean Tower in Shibuya.

Still have so many photos left over from Tokyo! I was a little apprehensive about going back after being there for the earthquake in March but feel so much better that I did. It was great to see my agents over there and share stories with everyone I had seen the morning before it happened as well as just get back to work with the magazines and brands that have done so much to support my blog. The ‘ganbatte’ spirit is palpable in Tokyo and everyone is doing their part to save electricity…one quite visible issue is the mistrust of the government’s and TEPCO’s statements and a subsequent substantial lack of complete understanding of the situation. But of course the people starting their lives over from scratch have it the hardest. It’s so important to continue to support Japan through this, whether it be by donating or even visiting to help show that it is safe, and as beautiful as ever.

(Rag and Bone hat, Etoile Isabel Marant knit and suede boots, Zara skirt, vintage bag, Michael Kors watch)

I’ve already gotten so much wear out of this twirly Zara skirt..so easy to wear with anything. It was so cold in Paris today! Colin and I got up early for a long Metro ride to the flea market and spent the rest of the day trying to figure out what you’re supposed to to on Sundays here. Tried to realize a sudden dream to bike around the city but found out our credit cards wouldn’t work in the Velib machines..so ended up eating croissants and cornichons in bed instead. Not bad either.

it’s like red but not quite

03/05/2011, biker jackets for life, isabel marant, silverlake, zara

(vintage silk shirt, Isabel Marant shorts, Zara jacket, ASOS hat, Topshop boots, Chan Luu bracelet)

New favorite default outfit…comfortable and just barely not boring. These sickeningly pink shorts are one of my favorite purchases for spring. Love the lace-up detailing and their ability to go with every mushroom-ish nothing-colored thing in my wardrobe. Perfect!

10/04/2011, actually wearing jeans, brr dude, california love, General, j brand, la, silverlake, zara

(Zara knit, J Brand 10″ jeans, Theory bag, Dolce and Gabbana wedges)

It suddenly got so “cold” the past few days here in LA…I subsequently switched to giant sweater and jeans and literal effortless makeup mode. Obviously I’m not kidding around with the giantness, it is most unflatteringly tent-like. I got this thing last fall before NY fashion week and ended up leaving it on one of my highest shelves for um months shortly thereafter. Two huge faded patches to prove it. I only realized the hobbit window situated right above it all that time was the culprit after attempting to lint roll the faded sections off. Not my most evolved moment.

I got my hair touched up on Friday at Chris McMillan – the blonde bits were growing out and basically I wanted to extend them a little up again and even things out. The number of questions I get about my hair never ceases to amaze me and I always feel a little useless explaining that I used to bleach the crap out of it and then just stopped..least helpful response ever? Anyway, it was time for a little update. I made an appointment with Casey Carhart and went in slightly nervous about the first dye to touch my hair in almost two years..but she was so sweet and had exactly the light touch I wanted. The ends are brighter and the transition from light to dark more uniform now. Definitely recommend going to her if you want something similar done.
