butterfly effect

13/08/2008, General

I found this completely awful 90s clubbing/possible strip club survivor secondhand, and something triggered. I wanted it. I wanted to at least attempt to master it. It is a sick thing to want a butterfly-shaped backless crop top, but hey, can’t fight the instinct. I will also note here that I had to take scissors to the lining to remove some substantial bust-enhancing cups. But not before trying it on with them still in and giggling at the sight of me with boobs. Looked weird.

I suspect that I might be the only one to kind of like the thing, but it was definitely fun to wear. I always like the shiny shinies.

Sweatshirt, American Apparel. Top, Kain. Shorts, vintage Levi’s. Boots and cuffs, vintage. Necklace, Forever 21. Bag, Givenchy.

Woohoo, lots of good stuff in the store. I get a lot of questions about international shipping, so I just want to clarify that I definitely do ship internationally..in fact it seems more than half of my customers are international. From a slouch fit crested Ralph Lauren blazer and Topshop exposed zip bandage mini I ordered that was too big for me to the perfect motorcycle jacket and gorgeous sequined jacket..something for everyone.

As promised. They were surprisingly good little posers, though my boyfriend redirecting their attention with a laser pointer was instrumental. The little black one we named Bijou and the gray Kumo (cloud in Japanese)..Bij is such a little prince who struts about expecting (and receiving) all kinds of spoiling and attention. He watches witheringly as Kumo crashes full force into mirrors and walls like the maniac he is before they both pass out flat on their backs for hours. If you think Pinky and the Brain, you’ll have their personalities down pat. We toyed with naming them as such, but I would feel kind of bad calling something “Brain” all the time.

Romper, H&M. Shoes, Forever21.

Bodysuit, American Apparel. Pullover, vintage.

American Apparel sent me over some of their new styles, including this sick bodysuit that fits more perfectly than is logical. It’s made of an ’80s-reminiscent super thick and stretchy jersey and I’m now coveting it in the white version too.

This is kind of sad, but I hardly ever actually make it into the ocean even though it’s only a few blocks away – it’s pretty much always too frosty for me. I think the last time I was fully immersed was Labor Day last year when the combination of Indian summer heat and too much vodka made it seem like a more friendly option (also the day I discovered that the only time I will burn is when wearing a metallic bikini top all day that reflects the sunlight doubly onto my ribs..ouch). So no harm is done if my attire isn’t waterproof.

And is there anything cuter than little surfer kids in wetsuits with sun-bleached hair? Not really.

Thank you so so much for the comments on similar hair woes and the NY tips – I’m busy putting together a master list of things I want to make sure to check out and shopping in the vitamin aisle. But so sad about Topshop!

Leopard print jersey tunic, secondhand. Heels, Marni. Cuff, Forever 21.

Short absence = WE GOT KITTENS. I am in love and have decided that they could be the solution to never being sad again. So my boyfriend and I spent the weekend doing all kinds of un-Rumi things like waiting for hours at the vet and wondering what kind of cat shampoos to buy. They are so cute I might die. Pictures to come.

Equally exciting, we are going to New York! From September 3-8 we will get lost all over the place in the city I’ve always obsessively fantasized about living in. When is the NY Topshop opening again? Any ideas for where I need to spend ludicrously? Cannot wait.

On the other end up the life spectrum, I got what should have been the easiest haircut ever (cut an inch off, fix what I did to my bangs..thanksss…) but the remarkably incapable girl ended up cutting my bangs so short they are no longer visually acceptable. Whyyy. This is probably the other reason I haven’t posted in the past couple days, the wounds are still being licked. I foresee a lot of desperate pinning and braiding in the near future, along with the consumption of as many vitamins and supplements I can scrounge up so I can delude myself into thinking my hair is growing faster. Okay I will stop complaining now. I AM GOING TO NEW YORK.
