if you close the door the night could last forever

21/01/2010, ankle boots, balenciaga, biker jackets for life, sd, white dresses anonymous

(Alexander Wang suede motorcycle jacket, Claude Maus dress, Balenciaga sandals/Sam Edelman boots, BCBG burgundy velvet kisslock bag, Lara Vincent headdress)

Sometimes the most awkward situations come from taking photographs in random places..some drunk guy came up to inspect what we were doing and proceeded to offer up his dog as a prop. Declined. But the dog was pretty cute.

This dress is one of my favorite pieces in my closet – the layers of jersey and silk somehow go perfectly with both motorcycle boots and the highest heels. I got it in New Zealand (seriously this is unintentionally becoming a catch phrase here) at Black Box, one of the only boutiques I’ve ever been in where I’ve wanted most everything. I’ve tried to track down places that stock Claude Maus in the US and gotten nowhere. Oh well. And this jacket is rad for having zippered removable sleeves..I wasn’t really in the market for a suede vest but it should be fun to play with come Spring.

1. someone’s abandoned Starbucks cup I came across when leaving a studio in LA last week
2. finally found the vintage leopard coat of my dreams (sorry, the front shot is an exclusive for Nylon Japan! will wear again soon)
3. Kelsey Brooke’s show in La Jolla I went to with my friend Brian from RVCA
4. my neighbor’s painstaking efforts
5. waiting for dinner…yellowtail salad
6. unplanned beach stop with all the wrong accessories
7. 30 seconds in an elevator
8. Alice in Wonderland themed Book of Shadows complete with personalized mug and travel size absinthe, a gift from Urban Decay (thank you Kat! and watch out for Colin’s pretty face..and more..on their Pocket Rocket lip gloss this spring)

And to answer a few questions…

Which Chanel beauty products are you using? I love Teint Innocence, a light sheer coverage liquid. I also have the Double Perfection Compact but don’t use it as much.

Where can I get the Dolce & Gabbana wedges? Mine came from luisaviaroma.com..they’re sold out there now and I don’t know where else they’re available, sorry!

Do you go for cheapy own-brand batteries or energizer? Juice with bits, or without? Energizer re-chargeables and Trader Joe’s fresh squeezed (so with bits).

Have u ever worn sweats, jeans, or flat shoes your whole life? Even at home?? Of course! From some of the comments that I get..I’m way more normal than you think I am. I wear jeans a lot but sometimes feel like it’s hard to wear them in a different way every time.

Do you ever give back? Yes. I don’t talk about every last thing I do on this blog. Donate to help Haiti here.

U should start smiling in the next coming post. Your look so gorgeous so why not bring out the natural beauty? Ha…thank you..I’ll try but I feel cheesy fake smiling for photos.

I was just wondering where your roots are from? Because you have that asian look. I’m half Japanese and half white (Dutch and Scottish if you go way back). My mother was born and raised in Tokyo and I lived there for a few years when I was little.

I’m just wondering – did your friend fit in the ice machine? We forgot to check! So lame.

What kind of nail polish is that? OPI’s Black Onyx.

Thank you as always for your words :)

washing the eye of the land that has been down by the sea

06/01/2010, my photography, sd

Combination of photos I took throughout my day today, odd iPhone shots, and unsorted candid shots by Colin. Ever since the new year started it’s been warm days, psychedelic sunsets, and beautifully depressing sights like fake snow littering entire alleys. But in a strange way it feels like it hasn’t even begun.

pockets full of kleenex and lint and holes

30/12/2009, givenchy, sd, vintage

(Need Supply sweater, vintage slipdress, Henry Holland for Pretty Polly tights, Dolce & Gabbana wedges, Givenchy bag, Ray Ban sunglasses)

Nothing like a boy repellent shaggy sweater and cumbersome bag to confuse people into thinking you’re dressed appropriately. I’ve somehow only not gotten around to posting these tights – my friend Anna in New Zealand was sweet enough as to find me a pair after I died all over them during the Sera Lilly show (thank you Anna!). People are way too nice to me in a way that makes me feel kind of horribly bad. You can see them in action on the runway beautifully paired with a liquidy printed jacket here.

I ended up having a pretty depressing Christmas since I was stuck in San Diego for a few stupid stupid reasons but I guess I gave it a subconscious nod with my festive nail polish and beaded bracelet combination. Pretty much the extent of my spirit but I’ll try harder next time. Can’t wait for the new year, does everyone have their outfit picked out?

extra mustard

28/12/2009, sd

(Rodarte for Target dress, gifted Herve Leger platform sandals)

I don’t usually gravitate towards mustard yellow in it’s purest form but between the frothy tulle and lingerie-inspired detailing of this dress, that became irrelevant. Thank you Rodarte for bringing the darkly beautiful to the masses. I paired it with these deathly good strapped chain sandals that I got at the BCBG showroom in New York back in September, my candy of choice, and some creepy poses in my living room.
