bumble and bumble

18/09/2009, fashion week, nyc

(Me & Ro chained ring, thrifted New Look striped tunic, Balenciaga leather cuff, Forever 21 black shorts, UO beanie, vintage coat, Acne wedges)

One of the best parts about New York – extreme weather changes in a concentrated period of time. I got to use almost everything I packed, though this could also be attributed to changing three times a day. Who am I kidding, I change at least that often when I’m at home too. The difference actually being that it’s harder to get sick of your clothes when different ones are always spontaneously becoming appropriate.

Bumble and Bumble was kind enough to invite me to their salon in the Meatpacking District to get my hair styled. Normally I’d be more wary but I’m into the beachy look they’re known for…I really love the smoother style they created and tried to pay attention to how it was done but somewhere around the tenth finger curl/flip/brush-through I got confused. Either way I left feeling liking a better version of myself so thank you to the Bumble and Bumble team.

I still have a bunch of NY pictures to post but Colin and I are leaving for New Zealand fashion week in a couple hours, can’t wait for the adventures that await, though I’m kind of nervous too. It’ll be my first time in the southern hemisphere, the furthest I’ve been is Hong Kong..

The BCBG show was beautiful..I of course loved the tiny dresses with mesh slashed across them but also stunning were the plays on tshirt dresses, thick black paneling layered over prints, and the pairing of neon and gray. My favorite has to have been the draped white minidress and I know I’m not alone on that one..there was an audible collective gasp when the sequin detailing in the back became visible.

(vintage everything, Docs)

Some shots driving into the city from JFK. We’ve been in New York for a few days now, I know…light years have passed but I’ve had some laptop issues, sorry!! After checking in at the Soho Grand, it was straight to a dinner at Hotel Griffou hosted by Coach, where Karla and I finally met and shared most flavors of desserts worth sharing. So much to post as soon as I get some time…so far it’s been the BCBG show, Pastis, Topshop, Fashion’s Night Out at Coach and Barney’s before Opening Ceremony, random party after random party, pizza in hotel rooms, a fitting for Hervé Léger, wandering around Chinatown, using platforms against puddles, cheap sushi, expensive coffee, a long catching up with Kristin, and the Erin Wasson x RVCA show.

Colin wanted to make sure to see the Statue of Liberty while we were there..after all the stores and fashion stuff I dragged him around to, saying I owed it to him is an understatement.

Miss you already New York!

Touring Teen Vogue

15/09/2008, fashion week, nyc

I was so happy to run into Naomi from Teen Vogue on Thursday at the RVCA presentation, who is just the sweetest girl ever and gave me some awesome California girl in New York tips that were most definitely put to use. And to top it off, she invited me over to the Teen Vogue HQ, which is obviously an offer I couldn’t turn down.

Colin and I cabbed to Times Square in the rain on Tuesday, felt like complete impostors talking to the people at the Conde Nast front desk, and made it to the right floor only after first taking the wrong elevator (hey there were a lot to choose from). It was a relief to see Naomi’s smiling face coming out of those glass doors, and a little surreal to be taking a tour of the offices of one of my favorite magazines in existence. We walked the hallways outside Amy Astley’s office, met some fabulously dressed Teen Voguers, and even got to check out the accessories closet in a complete daze as Colin snapped photos of my slack-jawed self. Naomi gently guided us away and we went down to Bryant Park to get some coffee and talk about anything and everything..turns out we both had all kinds of questions to ask each other. All in all an amazing experience – thank you Naomi for being the perfect hostess!

Chatting with Andrew Bevan..LOVE this man, he’s so much fun. It seems he had just been shot by Altamira NYC in his masterfully rain-appropriate outfit and sweet buckled boots.

I made Naomi pose cheesily with me in her gorgeous Alexander Wang dress and DIY necklace.

Hmm Colin seemed more apt to document the men’s clothes.

Heaven.

Then we of course had to document each other in Bryant Park. Colin wears a Ralph Lauren blazer, American Apparel V-neck, Gap jeans, secondhand belt, Vans, and Spy sunglasses.
