cafe medina

07/06/2010, alexander wang, biker jackets for life

(gifted Stolen Girlfriends Club ‘honcho’ (thanks Marc!!), Alexander Wang asymmetrical dress and Diego bag, vintage arrowhead necklace, Target thigh highs, Jeffrey Campbell x Free People boots, Ray-ban Wayfarers, Forever 21 and Pamela Love rings, Zara motorcycle jacket)

More from Vancouver…here outside Cafe Medina after lavender mochas, mini berried-up waffles, and the best open faced salmon sandwich I’ve ever had…not that that’s a food category I indulge in frequently but still. Breakfast will always be my favorite meal.

This dress is almost disgustingly perfect..asymmetrical hem, edges that look like they were hacked up with pinking shears, and the sort of shapeless I can’t stay away from. And slightly more street-ready credibility than the actual slipdresses that I seem to think are okay to wear as legitimate dresses. The lavendery gray knit was one of my favorite pieces from this season’s Welcome to Nowhere collection. Strange that the two pieces’ diagonal lines parallel so cleanly…I promise I didn’t plan that.

en route

30/05/2010, actually wearing jeans, alexander wang, ankle boots, vintage

(vintage poncho, American Apparel tshirt, Silence + Noise lace corset, gifted Soul Design Lab jeans, Jeffrey Campbell x Free People boots, Pamela Love double cage ring)

Heading to Hapa Izakaya for Japanese tapas before the show..feasted on amaebi, salmon sashimi, and miso eggplant. The consistently almost-raining weather gave me the perfect excuse to wear this blinding fringed poncho I thrifted last month. Suitable for a psychedelic Little Red Riding Hood, and me, apparently. I discovered after I brought it home with me that it’s fully reversible as well..the other side boasts semi-unattractive patchy black faux fur and brass toggles. Toggles are always good in my book.

Want to give an enormous shoutout and a lifetime’s worth of gratitude to Ms. Araki from Elle Girl Japan who gave me (I KNOW…I’m still in a confused daze over the whole thing) an Olympus EP2 camera at the photo shoot at my house last week. I tried to refuse but if you’ve ever tried this tactic against a Japanese person you know it’s most ineffective. It hasn’t left my side since..I’m still figuring out it’s endless options and settings but am already in passionate love with it. I took a picture of Kumo with it and the clarity was so extreme that it looked as if his fur was emerging all hedgehog-like through the LCD screen. Probably the most ideal camera for it’s joint portability and DSLR power..I’ve posted a few shots I’ve taken with it in the past week on genericdream.

black magic

26/05/2010, alexander wang, ankle boots, back to the woods, california love

(Alexander Wang asymmetrical romper courtesy of Forward, Emma Cook x Topshop boots, vintage arrowhead necklace, eBay cross bracelet, Pamela Love rings)

Forward sent me this amazing one-piece…which is somehow more versatile than a skort/romper/elasticated thing should conceivably be. By that I mean a change of shoes takes it from the beach to Trader Joe’s to a night out..though I understand my idea of what makes sense where is anywhere from mildly to completely skewed according to some.

I’m working on packing a suitcase of knits and leather to fly up to rainy Vancouver with Colin tomorrow morning..can’t wait for the Obakki show…their lookbook had me sold in a heartbeat. If you have any tips for what to check out in the city I’d love to hear them..x

make or break

ph. by my friend AK
(thrifted cut up boy’s thermal, Rumi x RVCA Triad Tank, UO frayed ruffle shorts, American Apparel sheer tights, BCBG boots, Alexander Wang bag, Grey Ant sunglasses, gifted Aldo nail polish)

Two ideas I’ve been fixated on lately: doubling up on whites (multiple dresser drawers of flimsy variations make this easy) and snug cropped knits (thermal waffle weave is close enough) to add some structure to oversized pieces. Haven’t seen anything in stores so I’ve cut up some of my own. Layered over the tank I designed for RVCA, which will finally be available to purchase soon..also in black of course.

On the agenda this week: photo shoot tomorrow with Elle Girl Japan, a trip to Vancouver with Colin for the launch of Obakki‘s f/w collection, and the release of my Forever 21 campaign that someone tweeted me a photo of from New York (thank you Jane!) while I was out last night..made for some pretty public hyperventilation. Really really surreal. Look for the campaign here in the US, Japan, and Korea. Thank you to my readers for all the support…never did I think…

Happy Sunday xx

ph. by Colin
(vintage sweater and silver chain necklace, Alexander Wang silk shorts and leather backpack, Target socks, Dolce & Gabbana wedges, Noir bracelets)

There is no denying that these are just designer boxer shorts + some draping and folding, which makes me a sucker in the worst way. But I figured this isn’t one of those things where you can just go the crappy route and buy a cheaper version cause those would just be…actual boxer shorts. And even I’m not ready to be that awkward yet. Still, I’ve probably lost it. Luckily I’ve worn them to death already this month so I don’t feel as bad. Also love the exposed seams and mile long sleeves on this sweater..worn with my trusty standby accessories. All of them.
