(DIY backwards shirtdress, layered necklaces, Acne wedges, Givenchy bag)
Our one and only videographer Nate was shooting us shooting these a few blocks from Bryant Park, which required a back and forth on the crosswalk before we made our way down to Kinokuniya bookstore so I could make them buy pretty sandwiches while I checked out the Japanese magazines. I could easily have spent two hours in there.
I've had this hopelessly oversized thing for a few months now, for some reason it stood out to me while combing my neighborhood Goodwill. Maybe it was the oatmeal stripes? Or its potential to redefine shapeless? I wore it once and felt kind of horrible in it, so I put it away again and eventually came back to it with a plan. Deciding it was the science teacher-reminiscent half collar that was to blame, I trimmed the whole neck down and sewed it up (when I say sew I mean loop thread sloppily until nothing seems to fall apart upon contact), also closing up the fabric below the last button to stop it from gaping awkwardly in the wind. But boyshorts never hurt.
The Acne wedges have already been worn to the point of being dented and scratched...it's so strange, from several first hand accounts I've heard people say that they are either stupidly painful or the most comfortable platforms they own. I'm on the side of the latter party luckily..I always reach for them first these days and have been noticing this desert boot silhouette appear from less exalted brands as well. They could work in a flat version I think. Wish we could have spent a couple more days in the city, I got zero shopping time in. Next time!

gorgeous! I finally got me some of that la dama, that black rosary and the coral bullet (love), but of course I haven't had time to shoot any of it, bad blogger me :P
those acnes are absolute heaven, NEED to somehow materialize them in my size so life can then be complete :P
I went to Kinokuniya last week, and easily spent a couple of hours in there. Loved all the magazines, stickers, books, ect.
Really like the large shirt, the oatmeal stripes are nice. This looks great!

love the pictures in the city and the acne wedges look so good on you!

I think the "stupidly painful" group comes from the fact that they are soooo narrow and the leather is super stiff (read: smashed feet to the point of tears)... I had to wear mine in/beat and abuse them to get to the "most comfortable" side. Their heel-to-platform ratio is, however, undeniably, amazingly comfortable. I wear mine constantly now as well (my boyfriend thinks they are hideous, so I love proclaiming loudly that they are so comfortable I might never take them off).
Kind of obsessed with the backwards shirtdress. The fifth photo is a really great shot of it :)

Your Givenchy bag is to die for.

I hate that Acne didn't make these in a size 41. Acne hating on big feet. Fuck that. I'm just salty, I guess.

The layered necklace matches perfectly with your outfit. It screams casual with a hint of funk. Red, white and black are good color combinations. If you need more fashion jewelry, you can fine cheap ones at http://eternalsparkles.com.

This dress could be a nightgown actually. But with the platform booties and this gorgeous bag (I have exactly the same in a cream color: http://fashioncoup.com/coupinesstyle/golden-days/) it works! I really admire your fearlessness when it comes to silhouettes and shapes. Great pictures!
We'll be blogging live from Paris next week so check it out;-):

I LOVE the idea of the backwards shirt; simple yet effective. Although, you could have given the outfit a little 'pop' by adding some ankle socks.

tres chic!
that sweater is too sweater like and can't be pulled off as a dress even though it's long enough. It just looks weird and one of those moments when you go "wear pants!".
nice bag!
http://missheadoverheels.blogspot.com/
Anon 9:57 PM a lot of the past rules in fashion have changed, and I don't think it's the end of the world if you do wear a longer T-shirt/sweater as a dress one-piece-only, I myself have an Ann Demeulemeester dress which actually hasn't got the proper length to wear be worn as a dress (the sites claim it's a shirt, but it's too long to be worn over pants and I hate the way it fits with pants on) by itself., but I decided to just go for it, after all I'm only young for so many years, what's the big deal if you show off your legs in public ?? I love how Rumi's outfit is a contrast between conservatory in the upper part and yet very sexy by showing off her legs in all of their splendor ... I wish I could visit NYC one day too :)
wonderful! you made a great DIY!!!
this wedges, confortable or not... are amazing!!!
I agree with Anon 9.57.
It's not about the length, its about the cut. I mean, it wouldn't be so bad if Rumi wore an actual dress this short (though not to my taste) but this really looks like a top. It looks like she forgot to wear pants. Sometimes I actually have a nightmare in which I'm back in highschool and I've forgotten to wear pants and I'm trying to pull my school shirt down to cover my butt. This is like my nightmare come to life! Thanks Rumi!
you rock this oatmeal colour and i like the looseness of it, but for me personally its too short to wear out without tights or some from of leggings.. but you do have great legs so props to you!! :)

i love the easiness of this outfit-great idea turning it backwards, i'm always drawn to oversized...things..at thrift stores, but set them back knowing they'll end up under the bed with the other oversized...things. :)
But now they'll have new life!
Gorgeous pictures and your shoes are crazy!!!!!!
Hey Rumi ! Just to tell you I've seen the article about you in the October issue of Jalouse (i don't know if you've already talked about it in one of your posts, don't think so though). The article is amazing !! Hope you're gonna talk a bit about it soon :)

i'm curious. i've seen you wear dresses and shirts that are very short. And still no sign of any underwear or anything. I figure either you've come up with some clever way of hiding it, even when wearing white like above, or you simply skip underwear all together, which i would call either stupid or genious. funny anyhow.
so, what is it?
your wedges toughen up your shirt dress perfectly, i love it.
I agree with tanskinator that your wedges do toughen up your shirtdress. It was a brilliant combination.
