(DIY backwards shirtdress, layered necklaces, Acne wedges, Givenchy bag)

Our one and only videographer Nate was shooting us shooting these a few blocks from Bryant Park, which required a back and forth on the crosswalk before we made our way down to Kinokuniya bookstore so I could make them buy pretty sandwiches while I checked out the Japanese magazines. I could easily have spent two hours in there.

I've had this hopelessly oversized thing for a few months now, for some reason it stood out to me while combing my neighborhood Goodwill. Maybe it was the oatmeal stripes? Or its potential to redefine shapeless? I wore it once and felt kind of horrible in it, so I put it away again and eventually came back to it with a plan. Deciding it was the science teacher-reminiscent half collar that was to blame, I trimmed the whole neck down and sewed it up (when I say sew I mean loop thread sloppily until nothing seems to fall apart upon contact), also closing up the fabric below the last button to stop it from gaping awkwardly in the wind. But boyshorts never hurt.

The Acne wedges have already been worn to the point of being dented and scratched...it's so strange, from several first hand accounts I've heard people say that they are either stupidly painful or the most comfortable platforms they own. I'm on the side of the latter party luckily..I always reach for them first these days and have been noticing this desert boot silhouette appear from less exalted brands as well. They could work in a flat version I think. Wish we could have spent a couple more days in the city, I got zero shopping time in. Next time!

I think the "stupidly painful" group comes from the fact that they are soooo narrow and the leather is super stiff (read: smashed feet to the point of tears)... I had to wear mine in/beat and abuse them to get to the "most comfortable" side. Their heel-to-platform ratio is, however, undeniably, amazingly comfortable. I wear mine constantly now as well (my boyfriend thinks they are hideous, so I love proclaiming loudly that they are so comfortable I might never take them off).

Kind of obsessed with the backwards shirtdress. The fifth photo is a really great shot of it :)

artvisuelle said...

Anon 9:57 PM a lot of the past rules in fashion have changed, and I don't think it's the end of the world if you do wear a longer T-shirt/sweater as a dress one-piece-only, I myself have an Ann Demeulemeester dress which actually hasn't got the proper length to wear be worn as a dress (the sites claim it's a shirt, but it's too long to be worn over pants and I hate the way it fits with pants on) by itself., but I decided to just go for it, after all I'm only young for so many years, what's the big deal if you show off your legs in public ?? I love how Rumi's outfit is a contrast between conservatory in the upper part and yet very sexy by showing off her legs in all of their splendor ... I wish I could visit NYC one day too :)

PUNKIE said...

wonderful! you made a great DIY!!!
this wedges, confortable or not... are amazing!!!

Q said...

I agree with Anon 9.57.
It's not about the length, its about the cut. I mean, it wouldn't be so bad if Rumi wore an actual dress this short (though not to my taste) but this really looks like a top. It looks like she forgot to wear pants. Sometimes I actually have a nightmare in which I'm back in highschool and I've forgotten to wear pants and I'm trying to pull my school shirt down to cover my butt. This is like my nightmare come to life! Thanks Rumi!

you rock this oatmeal colour and i like the looseness of it, but for me personally its too short to wear out without tights or some from of leggings.. but you do have great legs so props to you!! :)

i'm curious. i've seen you wear dresses and shirts that are very short. And still no sign of any underwear or anything. I figure either you've come up with some clever way of hiding it, even when wearing white like above, or you simply skip underwear all together, which i would call either stupid or genious. funny anyhow.

so, what is it?
