candy aisle

(vintage slipdress, random scarf, UO men's cardigan, Aldo boots, Alexander Wang bag, Pamela Love cross ring)

Something new, right? No really, we were going to get blog shots in after shopping for essentials..which ended up being way more than essentials..why is it impossible to get out of this store without spending at least $50? But then Colin had the idea to just go for it on the spot.

On just about the exact opposite side of the excitement spectrum from shopping for batteries and paper towels, I have the extreme honor of going to New Zealand fashion week after hitting New York in September courtesy of Front Row Diary..I'll be tagging along with FRD's editor Anna for all the excitement and meeting up with my friends from Stolen Girlfriends Club. And admiring nature's bounty of course. Yes!!!! I am so excited. Though it's looking like I'm going to have to find some actual dresses to wear next month. Time to start hunting.

Yawn.

People, stop supporting this blog. All it has become is a beggar's shoutbox. Delete it from your bookmarks and move on.

Shame, it used to be a large source of inspiration. Now I can't see a genuine post in between the "oh I've had my eye on this..." and within weeks Rumi gets whatever overpriced thing she wants. What was once a beacon of thrift and working with what you've got has become a label-obsessed "it" status site. It really bums me out.

I did a very similar post like this a while ago...super fun and agreed- hard to leave without spending at least $50...for me..bump it to like $100...

Im leaving to NY in about a day..wasnt as lucky to make it for fashion week,..so Have fun!!

oh you will love New Zealand!
Although it's a shame that you will probably only be in Auckland!
(everyone that visits says that they like auckland least)

I culd just be biased because i'm a south island girl though!
But since you love candy aisles you should try pineapple lumps!

my favourite!

Kasey if you look closer you'll see that a huge portion of my clothing is thrifted..the total worth of this outfit sans accessories is probably $25. Similar applies to at least the last handful of posts too. I fully admit (and always have) that designer shoes are my weakness. Not saying that I'm 'supposed' to inspire you though I'm sorry it's the case that I don't..it's hardly my goal in the morning when I get dressed to try to think how I can make the most people relate to my outfit. But thank for stopping by and I know that I'm extremely lucky...

Ashleigh have fun in NY!

Emmy ahh I got it at this weird tacky boutique by the beach for soo little..I went back hoping they'd have more colors but no cigar. Thank you!

Ayesha I might have some extra time to travel a bit outside Auckland, either way I can't wait. And I LOVE LOVE LOVE foreign candy so thanks for the tip!

Nice and simple, although I wouldn't dare to wear a slip dress out in public, accessorizing with a scarf makes this outfit wearable. Good to see you are traveling down here to the Southern Hemisphere, you'll get more warm weather. Make a stop to Oz if you have time, it's definitely worth it!

[Unspeakable Thoughts Unspoken]* said...

I don't think I would dare to go out of the house with a slipdress...but in you looks very normal somehow...

How lucky you are about the NYFW!!!!

I like the scarf though

I absolutely love the transparency of this outfit - the silk slip dress ans the delicate scarf all anchored together by those boots.

Funnily enough I saw those boots today and thought "How the f*ck can anyone wear those?" Well, you've converted me!

And actually, that wasn't very funny :s I'll try harder next time :)

do try and get out of Auckland - at least to the bay of islands which are about 3 hours away and HEAVENLY! or if you have more time rotorua is amazing and queenstown which is near the bottom of the south island is the adventure capital of the world if you like thrills surrounded by incredible scenery!

and the capital wellington (where im from) is beautiful on a nice day with an amazing cafe culture where you go from the beach to a cafe on the waterfront back to the beach, to another cafe and so on..

hope you love it here in nz!

Amusingly, whenever I buy an extravagant (e.g. heavily spangled/sequined, or poofy, or ruffly, or otherwise kind of a beautiful eyesore) dress, I always tell myself that "I'll wear it grocery shopping!"

Such is the fun of being way overdressed for EVERYTHING.

My blog (Fashion for Writers) is fairly different from yours (especially now that I'm without my DSLR), but perhaps you'd find it interesting, regardless. Especially since you seem to enjoy reading; I love when you tell us about what book you've got your nose in in the moment.

Here's a few ideas for your trip to Auckland, NZ-

If its a sunny day have a drive up to Tawharanui. Its a beautiful white sandy beach...and its a protected reserve. So its not built up at all. The big native treas spill onto the beach..the best part is the beaches nearer the end of the little peninsula. the Its only about 45mins north of auckland...so easy if your not going to venture far.http://maps.google.co.nz/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=&daddr=-36.36684,174.827843&hl=en&geocode=&mra=mi&mrsp=0&sz=12&sll=-36.367047,174.819174&sspn=0.131869,0.307961&ie=UTF8&t=h&z=12

Have a coffee in Devonport...thats where i live! Its a little histroic seaside town thats a 10min ferry ride from auckland CBD...great for breakfast/coffee etc. Lots of cute cafes. and the veiws from the top of mount victoria are amazing...right accross the gulf.
http://maps.google.co.nz/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=devonport,+auckland&sll=-36.367047,174.819174&sspn=0.131869,0.307961&ie=UTF8&ll=-36.824676,174.796515&spn=0.032772,0.07699&t=h&z=14&iwloc=A

Rumi, you're not seeing my points. This blog has degraded into a wishlist and a display of the same image over and over.

It is not your "job" to inspire me or anyone else, however it is worth noting that you have lost a ton of weight and have seemed to lose interest in truly envisioning and creating a full look (for example, the dangerously short dresses that are an updraft away from full exposure, add a cardi that can't stay on your shoulders, add the same poses, add 9 rings, add clunky boots that make you look shorter. Then photoshop it beyond recognition and remove most of the color) you cannot deny that the last several months have included roughly the same 10 or 15 images recycled.

The one main point that I'm really, truly attempting to make is that you have lost touch. No matter how much you say you're lucky, you ASKED for the clothes. You ASKED for the trips. It is all calculated and it makes me sick.

You have admitted a weakness for overpriced shoes, sure, but what about the Wang backpack? What about the Elizabeth and James rings? What about the Ungaro swag? All these things have been given to you. Why would anyone want to send you clothes? Have you done anything to earn this?

If you want to win back some support (and you've lost lots of it) you could show us just how hard you are working for what you have gotten so far besides copy-paste-file-save-enter.

All that I'm doing is restating what others have noted, and bringing these questions to you in a mature fashion. I have enough decency to not lace my post with profanity and name calling.

Well Kasey, you’re still here, wish you weren’t!!! No one gives a shit about your opinions and speak for yourself, or do you have godly powers and know exactly how much traffic is gained and lost on web pages?!
If this blog makes you sick don’t visit it! All you do is detract from the enjoyment it brings to the rest of us. You use this space for your own pathetic platform to vent your ill’s and misery, and with maturity comes a great loss of jealousy and envy. Looks like you have a long way to go. Your obsession is sickening as well! How often do you actually check or come to this site, must be pretty often if you can rebut and try to defend your small insignificant opinions. How pathetic must your life really be? How obsessed must you really be? How pathetic must your home life and social life really be? Are you seeing a therapist, I bet you are. What do they think of your obsession? Bet they try to tell you to deal with it differently? Or maybe you’re just not taking the medication they have prescribed to you.

Kasey, I couldn't have expressed it better.

Anonymous, do you realize how stupid you sound?

Rumi,
Enjoyed the target post - though I love outdoor posts it's nice to see that you can still make a statement in an outfit with a full background. As that I have a less scenic backdrop in the chicago south suburbs and in a cluttered home I share with my father, I always wonder where I would photograph my clothing if I could do so (which I rarely can, need a photographer and a better camera first).
My second question regards your Babinskis. I'm quick becoming an aldo addict and that pair is no exception. I noticed, though, that only the suede is available on the website. Your pair looks like matte leather in the shots - do you have a special promotional pair, that is unavailable in the public?
Thanks,
Trendy

New Zealand fashion week would be amazing, to say nothing of New York. Can't wait to see shots. Esp if you get to the Karen Walker show.

@Kasey- I think Rumi see your point, I just don't think she agrees with it.

I mean I get what your saying. But maybe the reason Rumi gets these is because she's working hard, but we the blogger audience doesn't gets a chance to see it.

Well Kasey I agree with some of your points but fuck it if I could get free shit by posting my wishes on a blog I would!!!

TBH I think people will eventually tire of the barely dressed look thats been going on for a while. I dunno I guess I love it when a woman can look at ease but sexy without showing too much (in my mind Marion Cotillard dresses very well not too much skin but very chic and sexy). Thats the thing about fashion though its so subjective - my love is someones hate.

Rumi,
I've solved my own mystery - both with the Parrin's and the matte leather Babinski's - Aldo's online availability/sales vary based on whether you search via their EU or US site. Wild.

How do you do this? I always look so dishevelled when I'm shopping at a grocery store. And you look like you came out of a fashion magazine. I need your fashion skills.
