(Hanes beater, Alexander Wang bralet, Levi's shorts, secondhand belt, Converses, Rayban wayfarers)

Perfect beach day. Colin and I rode our bikes down to the water to try to fit on one towel and not get sand in the camera.

Earlier in the morning I did some scouting around at Barney's and tried on a Rag & Bone dress that I feel pretty comfortable calling one of the most amazing floral renditions I've ever seen. Killer black banding.

What a quintessential summer outfit!!! And I love the Rag & Bone dress-- normally I shy away from florals/loud prints in general, but it's such an interesting shape and much more graphic than girly with the black banding!

I love everything about this post, Rumi. It truly shows how you make everyday attire, the fact that anyone can wear Levi's and WifeB's, look amazing and make me envious. It also proves that having style and knowing how to wear clothing is more than being able to afford Chloe Combats and vintage Escada (love them both though.) Also.. you have one of the past pair of stems ever. EVERRRRRR.

I've been following your blog for a while, and I do think you style your outfits in a fresh and innovative way, but I must say that you are walking a fine line between fashion forward risque, and looking a little tarty lately. I don't think you are a tart, or slutty, but it just seems that lately the outfits show off your figure more than explore different styles.

That said, you do have a fabulous figure, and you always look great, but there is a big rule in fashion, which I know you already know. Stick to one body part to show off at a time, legs, boobs, back, or stomach. Even if your top had sleeves or was not tied up it would have helped steer away from that image. I would have tucked the singlet in myself.

Anyway, thats just my humble opinion, I look forward to seeing what else you come up with for the new season!

Cheers

It is a sad sad state of affairs when wearing cut offs, a tank and raybans is a "style" and "unique." The recession has officially made a mockery out of fashion.

Anonymous said...

Oh wow, the horror. Rumi, let's talk. The first picture is kinda cute, you're looking bopperish, I can handle it. The last two are really in poor taste. I know you loves you some Wasson, but you really can't pull the look off unless you are strategically posed to not make it look cheap and slutty. You just don't have the look that works with all styles. These last two really do belong on an amateur-soft-core type of site. Really disappointing.

Anonymous said...

Oh, and I forgot to mention, the way you pulled back your hair... it emphasizes the fact that you have a very narrow forehead which doesn't read well. It also makes your face look really round which also doesn't read well.

Penny said...

C'mon guys those of us who don't like the outfit don't like it because its totally uninspired.

Virtually everyone who has written a positive comment has said that she looks hot/skinny/has great legs/. That't not why I or people like me come to this site, it's a fashion blog. We come here to source inspiration and see how others put certain aspects of outfits together.

Yes she is at the beach, like everyone I go to the beach in a bikini and not much to cover up in, but there is no need to post this outfit. The shorts and belt are cool, but if you are going to blog about fashion, it can be done better than throwing on chucks and a singlet and tying it up to show off your body.

Somebody mentioned the outfit could have worked better for the blog if it was posed and photographed the right way, which I agree with, Wasson and co get away with next to nothing because they the boho-I-fell-out-of-bed-in-this attitude. In the last pics she looks more do-me-here-and-now.

I guess what I'm trying to say is power to those who can show off their great figures, but don't try to pass it off as an inspired fashion blog post, it's insulting

wait, rumi are you kidding me?

the outfits lately have just been iffy...

i get where you were going with the cut off shorts and ill give you that they are making their summer come back.

but this entire outfit is neither fashion forward or a clever rendition of an old classic.

ive seen this outfit done countless times (hello erin) and ive seen this outfit done better. period.

Anonymous said...

i just wanted to say thank you to the people who are finally being honest instead of kissing rumi's ass on every post she makes. get real people.

mira said...

if all of you guys are reading this blog and leaving comments about how uninspiring it is there is a REALLY simple solution for that.

JUST STOP READING IT. everyone gets inspiration differently, and if this outfit doesn't inspire you, why waste your time commenting? seriously, if it bothers you that much then don't read it and stop bringing other people down.

aaallabama said...

rumi-sweetie, don't let all the negative peeps get you down :) trust me, they're all just jealous of your success. and if they're bored w/your blog, they don't have to read it. you've worked hard to get where you are. and should be proud of your accomplishments. what right does anyone have to judge you, your photos, your sense of style (?) this blog's about you & who you are, not them. and if they love it, great & if they don't, too bad!!! anywho, just wanted to say i've been a fan for a long time & always will be. you're truly an inspiration girl!!! xx

LMAO. I just read some of the funniest comments EVER.

Here's my 2 cents:

1. If Rumi (or anyone else for that matter) doesn't like all the "negative" i.e. non-butt kissing comments then Rumi can change her account settings and make you ALL log in to leave her love. That way she can track the worshippers from the realists.

2. The outfit really isn't amazing. She's thin, pretty and has nice legs. She looks nice in her clothing but that's just it, they are CLOTHES. This isn't a look, or a style. She couldn't walk down the street in 90% of this country in that outfit. It is beachwear ONLY. Furthermore, most of girls commenting couldn't DARE wear this outfit, so what do you do?

3. OBSESS. What better way to make yourselves feel like crap all the while adoring someone who is just living a better life than you (and you DO realize that 50% of the reason her life is better than yours is BECAUSE of YOUR OBSESSION). Jeez.

In closing, people aren't going to like everyone. Get over it. People are going to have opinions, some good and some bad but ALL are necessary, whether you like it or not. And finally, while you are on here, blowing up her very mediocre blog, you could be working on your own so you could have your very own legion of 20 something followers.

my question remains: why all the haters?!?!?!?!?!?!?! if you can't say something nice, why say it at all?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! if you don't like her blog, then why do you come here?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! seriously, if you think about it, it makes no sense...

This looks like what mislead 14 yr olds wear. Everyone who is saying that whoever doesn't leave an ass kissing comment is jealous is deluded. This is not about blowing smoke up this chicks arse, this is about clothes, she puts her outfits on here for people to comment on, so that's what we are doing.

Welcome to the real world, do you think Alexander Wang (clearly a big influence for her) would see this outfit and think it was prolific? Shit no. Because its boring and well on the late train for this trend, which has been done by others much better.

That's my opininon and constructive criticism is just that - constructive

honestly, i don't think she's blogging for people to criticize. i'm sure she's doing it for her own enjoyment. and is hoping that others will enjoy it too. but if you don't like her blog, why do you feel the need to come on & say so?!?! i'm sure she's a tough cookie & can totally handle it. but some of the comments are 100% ugly & that's pure jealousy talking.

I think the whole look works. I like the peekaboo effect of the bra and beater. Revealing, but not really, at the same time. And the way you cut the denim is pretty inspired. Elevates it from a simple pair of cutoffs into something kinda retro with the high waist and a little bit nasty too. Lol.

Also, I respect the fact that you let the comments go on unmoderated, but I think you might consider deleting the more racist-tinged comments, like under the previous posts.
