I love SGC.

Colin and I were hanging out in Ocean Beach yesterday and got kind of stoked on this boring blue wall. This crazy little dress is everything that I wanted it to be. Sweet on New Zealand designers..that's one country that is high up on my list of places to visit...I'm sorry but the scenery in Lord of the Rings sold me.

Hope everyone had a great Easter!

The author did NOT delete her comment.

Recap:
1. Aren't you all at least a tad bit curious as to how these people can afford to literally wander around every single day taking pictures in her free clothes and shoes? How is it that we, as a nation (and world) are in the grips of a recession that has taken countless lives and families and these two people are Paris Hilton-ing like it's going out of style? I don't see how this doesn't bother you.
2. Colin = best independent photographer in the blogsphere. Perhaps it is time for the C - man to get himself a blog and throw some work up.

And I will continue to exercise my First Amendment rights. Who knows, maybe I will just make a blog that this the antithesis of this one...oh man! Imagine!

People eating isn't cool, it is vital to survive. I am terrified by the things that people thing that "cool," such as smoking, eating and taking pictures of neo-gypsies. What was it that Wasson said about homeless people being "cool?" [ sigh ]

This ensemble is fabulous. WhoWhatWear said recently that this dress's best accessory is a set of rock hard abs, and they were right!
I have to agree with one of the Anon comments however.. @She comes from a nowhere town she likes - being skinny and still being able to eat isn't LYKEOMGSOKEWL! Eating is a vital part of survival, and eating disorders aren't the only way to be thin. The CFDA has been trying so hard to stress the importance of healthy models. HEALTHY! With a good diet, regular exercise, and good motivation, everyone can have a healthy, toned, body.

Rumi, you have a lot of pull in the blogosphere... How about you use it for good in your next post and share your exercise regime or something.

I want to respond to that. I've looked over all of the comments and I think it is quite clear that you are always in life, going to have someone(s) who doesn't like what you are doing. I would venture to say that those "haters," tend to bring more attention and accreditation to the person than the "non-haters." You virtually never have the good without the bad, so to be annoyed at it is fruitless. It is an inescapable truth that IS the fabric of our existence: balance. So for just as many lovers out there, you will have loathers. It is just how it works. You do your part, and let them do their part I say. That is how you keep it fair.

Rumi, I've been a huge fan for forever and look at your site everyday but I have to say, I miss your creativity at reusing pieces in terms of layering and creating different outfits. These days, it seems like you get one awesome piece and just wear it with nothing but heels and its getting skanky.

I'm not like those haters that just say you're skanky, I love every piece you have, including this amazing dress, but my point is I miss when you used to take an awesome piece and wear it with different layers and make it look classy and interesting. Every picture these days is just legs, stomach and heels. This post is a dress and boots, the last post was a short dress and boots, after that is really short short with a tied up wife beater. Inbetween though, you have great posts like the one with the fur vest and black dress.

I just miss looking at an outfit post and actually going, oh I can take that and make it my own. There's not much room for inspiration if you just wear a dress and heels, anyone can wear an expensive dress with expensive heels if they have the guts (but not necessarily creativity and style).

Tomohi said...

Hey, long time reader, first time comment poster =)

I have something to say to Tegan and sad and the rest of you. Fashion is not shallow or anti-recessionish. It is art. You can say that if you want, but fashion is something that makes people feel good about themselves, and in the current economic climate, I think we need to feel good about ourselves. I personally love poring over fashion blogs, and I am not vacuous and unintelligent - I have an IQ of 151. Go ahead and say that fashion is the preserve of vacuous girls with more lipgloss than brains if it makes you feel good about yourself, but you may just as well say that art is pointless, that drama is pointless, and close down every gallery and theatre in town.

Rumi, I personally adore this dress, and I admire your courage in being able to wear things like this. Tragically, Ireland is always going to be a bit too cold for that =)

Trying too hard. Knighttcat and Rumi seem to have taken over the blogasphere which is slowly influencing f21 and other stores to sell this crap. So sick of seeing stud boyfriend jeans and mesh t shirts. Where is the girly aspect of being a girl? It's lost in this grunge crapola.

HAHAHAHAHAH IQ of 151. i am still laughing about the pretentiousness and overall inanity of that comment, tomohi.

as for the dress....im sure you could have easily made that yourself rumi. arent you worried about people thinking you are a prostitute? that is what i would think if i saw this on the street. then again, i live in london, not in southern ca.

I think people get sickened by these uber fans. People asking for certain brands of lipstick and stuff! Just scary! Shes wearing RED lipstick! There are many brands and nothing special from what I see about the brand she is wearing. Rumi puts on a scarf, tanktop and jeans and OMG no one can believe how awesome she looks! Come on people everything Rumi does or wears isnt genious! Its the ass kissing that puts a sour taste in peoples mouths..The fact that she can go to good will and buy something for five bucks, wear it in her shoot, then turn around and sell it on her ebay for 150 bucks is genious however! Just idiots! You people just go with the flow huh? Lame asses!

sad, your solution stares you in your sad, miserable face: stop reading the blog, stop wasting your time here, go do something worthwhile with your time if you don't deem this worthwhile. there are a ton of people out there interested in non-superficial things, if you haven't found them yet and are sitting around being sad and reading fashiontoast cuz you don't see the alternative...then MY GOD YOU NEED TO GET OUTSIDE AND OPEN YOUR EYES. FUCK.

tegan, last i heard the recession hadn't "taken" anyone's life or anyone's family away from them. rumi gets free clothes after years of blogging because of the influence she has built up online; because of ppl like you, and me, and all the hundreds of other readers and commenters, rumi is influential and so designers/clothes makers/jewelry makers etc. send her free stuff so she in turn will promote them. it's pretty simple. you'd be lapping it up if anyone sent you some free shit. and you think colin should start his own blog? yeah why doesn't he just re-post all his rumi photos...that's all you know he's good at anyway.

it's simple people. why you gotta make it so complicated and sad. silly rabbits.

This shoot has a back-to-basics look- this LWD[with artful safety pins] is all that is needed here for a cool, light, yet edgy ensemble. Somewhat Agyness Dean meets Serena Van der Woodson. Well done, fashiontoast.

Like my take? Check out the next best fashion blog for those with a 'passion for fashion'[[cue the Bratz Dolls]], Confessions of a Teen Fashionista:

Oh, and did I mention i'm 12 years old?

this dress is so cool. it reminds me slightly of the dress that made Elizabeth Hurley famous, but more wearable & of course for daily wear.
