it shows that yes, the odds can be defied
id rethink those rash statements if i were you-
whoever that outlandish commentator is.
America is not the only country in the world, sadly your fucked up governments in the past, effect the rest of the world, so yer the fact that a new president has been elected does not limit the reaction to be felt by americans only. do you think before you type?
OBAMA=CHANGE
good luck America

Meg said...

This post is silly... I love obama too but this is a fashion blog.

Anonymous said...

we share your enthusiasm because from an onlookers perspective, the flaws which appear in your country are easily judged
in the globalized earth we live on, your country is not only dealing with your people, the credit crisis for example. do you think your government only effects your society?
NO! the decisions made by your president will filtrate through eventually to the rest of the world
your comments fro mthe anti Obama, anti rest of the world support, is really vague and not to mention unjustified

Anonymous said...

"While it did seem as if I made the assumption of American politics not affecting the rest of the world...I know otherwise."

I believe that IS holding myself responsible. Once AGAIN...only dumbass here...still you.

Excuse me.. I certainly did not make any RASH statements. I did not offend anyone or anything along those lines. I expressed my confusion as to why people who live in other countries would CRY, because Obama is now my president.

Tavi said...

Calling Barak Obama a socialist is so narrow minded and ignorant.

The U.S has fallen apart over the last 8 years, THANKGOD the American people finally made the right decision!!
Obama has a lot of work cut out for him, picking up the pieces that Bush left behind. But I have complete faith in Obama's ability to step up to the challange.

oh and to the anonymous fools that say it doesn't affect the rest of the world- you couldn't be more wrong.
As an Australian, we have political links to the US. We have troops in Iraq due to Bush's riduculous 8 YEAR LONG fear driven 'War on Terror'
The Bali Bombings are a perfect example of this

How could Obama be considered a socialist???!!
Because he actually gives a fuck about equality within the US??

UUUUGGGHHHH....

"oh and to the anonymous fools that say it doesn't affect the rest of the world- you couldn't be more wrong."

Once again...I have already addressed this and DO REALIZE THAT AMERICAN POLITICS AFFECTS THE REST OF THE WORLD. I was talking about the LEVEL of enthusiasm that people from other countries seem to have over it. Like CRYING because they're so happy.

Anonymous said...

OBAMA, i mean the President of US affects the world A LOTTTT.
I thought we (i can say "World") all knew about it.
It's so obvious.

Have you ever studied American History?, read newspaper or watched TV News?
You sounded that you didn't know anything about world affairs, and then unfortunately you kinda proved yourself to be a stupid.

Anyway I am so happy about world's enthusiasm about this election as well.
I believe world should get involved. This is not just about America. Really.

Sisi et JoJo said...

To Anon: the one who cannot understand the level of enthusiasm that foreigners show for Obama (Australians here), there is a very simple explaination. Obama represents America as a whole taking a step further; in electing an African American president, Americans have proved that they can see beyond racial lines (though I doubt they will ever move beyond). Countries' fundamental view of America have been changed with his election.

I think anyone who is part of a minority, part of a group that has been looked down on, insulted, etc etc take heart from Obama's election. And that is a big part as to why foreigners are so rapt with Obama even though he is not our president.

dnceprty said...

to the first anon: i definitely understand where you are coming from on the enthusiasm. a lot of people have blindly jumped on the obama band wagon, and i can understand why it would be frustrating to hear people, especially from other countries talk like they're following some celebrity. he is for sure a great person, and will be an excellent president, but i've talked to, and seen many people avid supporters of him that know little about his policies.
and yes, i think EVERYONE has clarified american politics effect everyone, so that one can be put to rest.
i am a canadian/american and am very thrilled to see obama in office, but i know not to be so star-struck because despite his greatness, he is still a politician. probably one of the most genuine, but a politician nonetheless.
personally, i feel like the race card has been (or should have been) thrown out of the picture by now. he is half-anglo in the first place, so let's not forget that. that would mean you have to disregard half of his identity. and honestly, i feel like a country so 'supposedly' advanced as america should be way past racism by now. especially when it comes to something as established as politics.
in the end i'm very pleased with obama's soon to be inauguration, and am hopeful for my own, as well as america's future.

Change the topic. said...

Well done Rumi for sharing your excitement on this!

Katri said...

As a fellow European I agree with caro. You electing Obama brings hope to all the world so I'm definitely excited. I believe that your new president will improve economical and environmental issues and maybe make our world a bit more peaceful place to live in. The reason we care is that politics in US affects the whole world both directly and indirectly through economical decisions and NATO for example. After all, your president the most powerful man in the world and everything..

Julie said...

I'm from Belgium too, and I can honestly say that when this morning I woke up and heard Obama won over the radio, I smiled.

The US politics and economy, of course, affects the whole world. But when someone here asked about the 'level of enthusiasm of non-american people on these elections' I guess that person didn't understand that the difference between Obama and McCain is that Obama has promised to the world to be more open and McCain didn't. We (non-americans, not all of us, but a small part) are happy too, because Obama, as America's president, means that we might have a say in his decisions (as opposed to Bush and McCain) and this will 'affect our country'.

But I must clarify one thing : I don't know many people who have cried, or cheered or whatever over Obama being elected. Sure we're happy but I think your perception of the level of enthusiasm has been magnified.

But in a way, our future depended on this election too (in a much much smaller way, of course)

why does everyone get so upset every time the word "socialism" is mentioned? we need more socialism in this nation to bring our healthcare and education systems up to par with those of most of europe! not to mention, obama is far from a socialist anyway. in fact, he's way too conservative for my liking. however it's obvious that an extreme democrat could never win any votes from the republicans...so obama is the only way to go for now, and hopefully he can unite people as he promises.

oh, and it's completely disgusting how many people are so prejudice against blacks and especially muslims in this nation. obama was schooled in islam? OMG, so foreign and scary! please, actually learn about the religion...it's not that far off from the christian teachings most americans (includng Obama!) embrace. get informed, people.

Socialism is the idea of redistributing the wealth. Instead of people prospering from their own ideas everyone shares everything. But the problem is, when you take away competition in the free market ideas and prosperity begin to suffer. People that had previously contributed good ideas or made money on business venutures stop doing so because they can never get ahead. This is what you can expect with ideas like "redistributing the wealth." And, by the way, it seems like a lot of people are excited about higher taxes on corporations. People, you think the corporation will pay that tax? They will raise the price of their product and pass it on to you, the consumer, lowering your purchasing power. Expect this.

it's great a black man CAN be choosen, but it's more than skincolour though, I don't like Obama because he seems very unhonest. I do think many people are naive about him.. But maybe time will open their eyes.

You are also an idiot. Is Bush (dis)honest? What about McCain? Making up stories about Obama. Or Palin using hate speech against Obama. That seems more dishonest to me.

I was just commenting on Obama, wich doesn't mean I think Buch or etc are honest, so please don't put words in my mounth I never said

Please be a bit more open minded. We are talking about politics here, not the end of the world.

We interpret things differently, that i understand. but come on, get out of your house and experience life as it is.

I am always shocked by all the cowardly hateful comments made by Anonymous. You people should proudly stand by your hateful tirades. One of you asked why anyone supports Obama? Here we go.

1. A politician is a politician. Yeah, they're all faulted, but maybe just maybe this one has learned from the adversity he has faced (because he wasn't born with a silver spoon in his mouth cough, cough Bush) and will remember that when making laws in regards to the rest of us. (Middle class, black, white, poor, Hispanic, whatever).

2. Yeah, you know what? It is nice to see a black person leading America. I said it. So what. Eat me.

3. Socialism really doesn't scare me. What amazes me is how much it scares you silly ignorant, middle class people who are listening to too much of what wealthy upper crust are telling you. If I'm making $200k a year, I SHOULD be paying more in taxes than someone who makes $20k a year. I don't understand why you people cry "unfaireness" to that rule. You're just kicking yourself in the pants.

4. Pro-choice. If you don't like abortion, don't have one. But don't step on your soapbox telling everyone else what's good and right for them. Especially if you've never adopted or birthed a child.

I could go on forever, but I'm tired from all this hatefulness. I'm more excited about this president than I have ever been about any president in my short lifespan.

GOOOOOOOO OBAMA!!!!!

I was Anon Nov, 8 7:04 ;

I also don't like hate-comments (believe me) but it's not that because I don't like Obama, and I said it out loud, that it was meant to be hatefull.
Just Like everyone says out loud how they LOVE him I said I don't LIKE him and why.
But because I said I didn't like him, people immediatly think I'm the same as those hateful people.
I think it's quite shortsighted..

I can't wait until he does a damn good job, so all you people talking about "the end of our country" or "socialism" will just shut up.
