(vintage crushed velvet dress and mohair cardigan that I'm so mad at myself for putting up in the store, American Apparel tights, Lyte Accessories headband, Bakers boots)
I took a break to immerse myself wholeheartedly in real life for the past few days. I'm not quite sure what it is about me that makes people feel so strongly, but my blog and my life are going to go in whatever direction that I feel like taking them. I'm never really quite sure what the point is when people say they wish I would dress a certain way or go back to something I was doing before, mostly because it implies that I should be consciously styling myself in a way to please them and just trash whatever feels natural to me at the moment, rendering my blog absolutely pointless. If you think I dress/look/act like a coke whore then surely you can seek fulfillment elsewhere on the internet. I party, I cry, I laugh, I contemplate the validity of leather pants, I take too long to call my parents back, I fight with my boyfriend, I wish I was two inches taller, I cut my own hair, I watch Heroes while snuggling my kittens, I think Michael Showalter is a genius, I constantly wriggle my toes, I've read everything Tolkien and Dahl about a thousand times, I love the sound of riding the train in Tokyo and the feeling of getting into a warm car, I sit on the beach and stare at the ocean almost every day, I wear short skirts...I am a normal person for everything weird and un-weird that I do. I am not a role model. Take it or leave it.
Thank you to all my readers for your sweet/hilarious/amazing/constructively critical/insightful words. Seriously.
+ a few things that I've been pondering
- I am in love with Eugenie Niarchos' earrings she designed for Repossi
- I finally scored a pair of Sam Edelman's Balenciaga knockoffs...ultimate boot
- seeking gloves/gauntlets/wristguards/whatever
- congratulations to Alex Wang on winning the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Award..and check out Alice Dellal in THE dress
- vintage Moss is the best Moss
- loving the Rodarte inspiration going on for Topshop ss09 documented by Susie Bubble
- but first must come the leather shorts
- the most perfect head accessory I've ever seen, from The Face magazine

-Oh and you MUST post those Sam's you just bought. Actually, call me the minute you get them and tell me what it feels like to touch them... and how good they taste!!!
I'm seriously in love with the Lyte headband. & I'm still lusting after that E&J knuckle ring. It's sold out everywhere!!
oh eff you! you look so good in that outfit!
<3
yes, you're back! we missed you! i'm sorry you had to come back to all these selfish/jealous comments from people who aren't even brave enough to show their names..
you're the coolest for being for so down-to-earth and being able to take this like an adult.
that cardigan is gorgeous! and those edelman's..
:O
so jealous of you getting those sam edelman bal knock-offs. i've been kicking myself for not getting them while they were on sale for ages. share pictures as soon as you get them so that i can live vicariously through you! ;)
Rumi, not your best outfit, but hands down your best, most inspirational post.
Ppoken like a true blogger. I can't even begin to ... fret about the guidelines readers expect from bloggers. We're obviously not all Mary-Kate knockoffs (who seems to please just about everyone except PETA), instead, we are real girls with really normal lives.
I've followed your blog for quite some time, but more than that, I like to consider us distant friends. Thankfully, the internet has provided us that opportunity <3. And it's not just ME, it's every... single... blogger. All the people who blog have connected in a way with their readers, and we've all connected to a point that we can all be friends. Unfortunately, with exposure comes haters. Every blogger has a flamer, and in this atmosphere that I once loved so much because of similarities and indifference, blogging was once a place to escape. Now people pass judgement like it's a fucking highschool. Nevermind, highschool girls are much more passive aggressive and possibly more civil than that. This is now like fucking middle school. Cliches here. Outcasts here.
We need to revolt. Bloggers against bullies. I've pondered the idea for quite some time. Maybe create another public group blog that bloggers can support and seldomly email a piece to be published.
Like everyone else in this fucking world, you have your great, inspiring outfits and sometimes you don't. I'm also sick of people calling you narcissistic because we ALL have some vanity in us some way or another. Having a blog is a way to SHOWCASE your life. The face that you do leave 16,000 people coming back for more (whether good or bad) is great! You're provoking them. Besides, Colin is turning into a great photographer! This is MORE than just you. This is about EVERYONE, and I just wish people would realize that.
I've learned a lot about myself doing my blog. I've learned not to take criticism so harsh, which lead me to not take myself too seriously. I've learn that respect is only earned when you're truly yourself. And I've learned that no matter what, you'll always have your place in this world. Too deep? Just bare with me.
Rumi, I don't care what people have said to you these past several months. I can respect a girl to keep doing what she loves doing and the animosity left behind in these rather harsh, harsh comments are nothing to be ashamed of.
Head strong, love.
R
i happen to think you're absolutely amazing, and i am obviously willing to ride convoy in your fashion/life adventures!
TEAM neely, that's what i say! haha.
I'm not going to lie, I did admire your previous layering girly outfits... but your current style looks very "thrown together" in a way that it works quite well too.
don't listen to those ppl that state your wrongs, if you suck you wouldn't have over 200 comments on the last post... haha. :D
Glad you said what had to be said. It boggles my mind how some people start feeling entitled, as if you owe it to them to act in some preconcieved way. Why people troll and comment on blogs they supposedly can't stand is just baffling ... More power to ya!
I have the Sam Edelman Balenciaga knock offs too. I got them a year ago and they are easily one of my pairs of boots.
I too have been dying to find a pair of badass leather shorts... if you find a pair, let me know!
While I was reading your say on all the negative feedback, I heard an imaginary dramatic score by an orchestra for the climax of a war movie.... yes.... ....
You look lovely, Rumi. I'm really happy that you're confident enough to not let all the negativity get to you. (: Keep on rockin' them outfits of yours!
Rumi you're a shining star!!
I really love that outfit you are just gorgeous!
What a skinny girl !! lucky.. :) you have a really beautiful body.
Kisses!
I thought this post was remarkably real and honest. As this blog shows, you have a natural affinity for fashion and genuine style! Keep rock’in!
:-) A
wow! this outfit is amazingg! i am in love with your blog! aww you're so pretty and so stylish i love it :)
Exactly! I don't dress like you - not because I don't love what you wear, I read your blog daily - but simply because it's not my style. And that's what this is all about, right? Style. And yours is impeccable. Why? Because you don't dress for anyone but yourself. Keep doing your thing girl, it's going to take you to big places. Especially if you get that headband with the devil horns. You would ROCK that.
Raych said it all.
Rumi, I applaud you; and all us other bloggers. Fashion without experimentation is...well, boring. Out of all the haters you've got a million zillion fans. I can't believe people can feel so entitled to thinking that you owe them something.
Although I do wish I was as thin as you. But that's a whole other silly issue.
Just screw the haters. Fuck 'em.
you look gorgeous!!! keep your chin up cause you are absolutely fabulous, your a fucking rock star, and you have so many people who love your swagger!!
those rude people can suck it cause your awesome and they suck
thanks for the tips about starting a blog... i finally started one!
check it out!
I thought this is one of your best outfits so far - and you're looking hot as always! Love the booots, they looks like the Balmain moccasin ones Anna Dello Russo wore?
I felt something amiss when you were gone the past week (few days?! felt like forever). Please dont be affected by the negative comments, and dont ever stop blogging, Rumi!!
I had a feeling thats why we hadn't heard from you in the last couple of days....
I ditto M's comment - I'm not going to waste time telling you how right you are - I've defended you against these losers before and I'll keep doing it.
As long as YOU keep doing what YOU do - providing fashion inspiration to the tons and tons of us who truly appreciate/adore/appluad it....
Much love Rumi, we're all with you!
xFLNM
the people who continue to make rude comments, yet somehow manage to continue to come back to your page are the ones who need to get a life. its like they spread their life around so much negativity that they feel the need to bring others down as well. i just say ignore those who try to bring you down. this is your blog, you can say, post, dress anyway you feel like it. fashion is self expression...not to please anyone but yourself. keep doing what youre doing. youre fabulous
I just say to myself: we can never please everyone. :)
we love u.
that headband + cardigan just kill me.
you know what else kills me ? your writing.
you write beautifully. and that, i think, is something that keeps us coming back, whether the reader realizes it or not.
there is rhyme to your surreality, dear rumi.
but you knew that. ;)
you are beautiful... the end
amazing post. I am so happy you made a response to the unnecessarily negative and unconstructive comments you've been getting! I could literally spend hours looking through your blog, even though I've already seen it all, and be inspired all over again. :)
I couldn't agree more, Rumi. It's really sad to see how acerbic people can be when they are behind a screen.
You're gorgeous and you do what you like to do. Fuck'em.
glad your back to blogging
and frankly
i think you should tell people that don't like your content to suck it
and just keep doing what you do :]
sd-pencil.blogspot.com
sd-thesketchbook.blogspot.com
Yay!!! So happy that you said that! I find it so strange that people take the time to read and then comment about how you should change yourself or how they hate your outfit when 1. they do not know you 2. blogging is an outlet to share who you are with the world...not who others want you to be!
Well regardless, I just bought that same headband this morning and I can not wait to get it in the mail!!! I like the outfit inspiration to go along with the headband :)
Hope you are having a wonderful week!
actually, you ARE a role model. you're someone who does their own thing and has a passion in life. who wouldn't want to look up to that? keep doing your thing and don't listen to the "haters" haha. they're probably just jealous that you get awesome jeweled headbands and unreleased RVCA pieces for free. whatev.
obviosuly style evolves as do people...(because they should) your amazing and lovely and your clothing is as well...LOVE the vintage kate and alexander wang and everything really. :)
I've been reading you blog for a couple of months now and I find you style and ideas on fashion very interesting. I like reading you blog because I think you know style without having to wear expensive brands all the time. You just have an innate sense of fashion.
Haters will always exist, and I think that if you don't like what you see, why go back to see it? Right?
I realize that if you "have haters, it means that you're doing something right."
this post has to be my absolute favorite you look wicked and everything about this post is so inspirational!
fuck those who have way to much time on their hands
You are fabulous! Amazing post, you wrote it soo so well! You look amazing (coveting that headband!) + your response to the negative is amazing. More power to you for doing what you love + seeing the positive before the negative. much love!
xxx
I've been a long time reader and I think this is my first time commenting. I was astonished with all the negativity and judgmental comments.
I think all the comments above have summed it all but I just wanted to say how much I adore watching you put together outfits and although I don't have the amazing legs you do and can never wear short shorts/skirts, I still find your style aspiring and inspirational.
Keep doing what you do hun, wishing you all the best in life.
xoxo
PS: I cannot BELIEVE you put that cardi up on ebay! You are insane!
your first pose is beautiful and your headband is to die for. oh and also, don't care about what people want, just do whatever you like to do, post whatever you like to post. that's why i'm reading your blog, because you feel very genuin in the things you post. it doesn't feel like your doing it for someone else and that rocks!
//http://saraleeigh.blogspot.com/
you have great taste and style and i'm really glad that you stayed true to yourself no matter what others said.
love ya lots & you are an inspiration to me!
Ahhh THE dress. Ughh, so amazing.
And Heroes, how I adore Heroes...!
Haha your awesome Rumi, I don't know why people insist on putting others down over the internet, but I suppose that comes with having more and more viewers to your blog. I think its totally true what you said though, if you wore what everyone told you to, whats the point in having a blog like this?
BUT more importantly I cant WAIT to see you wear only the hottest Balenciaga knock-offs everrr! Freakin Love those things <33
AMEN!
Rumi, you're amazing! The leather shorts are so surprising, i love them!
where did you get your sam edelmans? And what size are you?
Good for you for not taking those comments too seriously. Some of them were seriously out of controlll. Don't ever stop blogging Rumi! (:
I've read fashiontoast from literally day one
I love it, the early days, and now too
you constantly inspire me and I'm halfway around the world from you
so if a few jealous weirdos who can't spell don't like it...eh.
glad you see that too.
well you're amazing so screw the haters!! keep it up!
some love from new zealand! :) xx
You are awesome, Rumi!!
ummm,....what is everyone's problem?! so judgmental. I'm glad you expressed how you felt, Rumi! You post whatever you want, girl!
i agree w/dana, loved fashiontoast in the early days, the present, and probably tmw, too :) i actually really love the authenticity that radiates from this blog. some commentators just don't know what they're talking about....
girl i'm so jealous that you've found a pair of sam edelmans! i've been wanting them for soo long.
love those pictures
I've never commented on your blog page, but after that fab post, I can no longer refrain. I absolutely love that you've addressed those silly silly folks who feel the need to dictate and "advise" on what clearly shouldn't be. It's stellar (as is that velvet dress and that horned headband)! Much love!
you go girl! *snap*snap*
I've "kinda" been a fashiontoast reader for a long time and I don't really see a huge difference in the way you dress. You have always dressed for you and weren't afraid of trying different trends. Just as trends & designer's runway shows evolve, so should you and your blog... it's only natural. Fashion is meant to constantly change & evolve with and you are a perfect example of just that. I'm glad you stick to what you believe in and I say you DELETE rude/out of hand comments that don't offer constructive criticism.
Thanks for every awesome post you've posted :D
you're just cool, dude.
thanks for sharing your style and ideas with us.
always a treat :)

There has been actually a lot of discussion in the Finnish blogs about the anonymous bullys (for some reason all my haters are from my beloved home country, go figure). It is so easy to judge when you don't have a face. A lot of them think that "since you have exposed yourself on the internet, you should be ready to be judged". I think this kind of thinking is buch of BS, not any kind of bullying should be tolerated in any form (whether its blog, school, work etc). I'm sure they would never say something like that to your face, they wouldn't have the guts to do it. Your blog is about fashion, why on earth people judge about the way you look etc.? That's something I just dont understand. This is about style/fashion, not America's next top model (although you are very beautiful). But you get the point.
What comes to your style, I think people are jealous that you're a trend setter; you have the courage and ability to wear whatever you want. Everyones style evolves and fashion goes forward. Deal with it.
I wish all the best to you and your blog. :) Though you have succeeded really well, I never thought the fame had gone to your head. You still seem like a very real and nice person! :)
i love your headband. where did you get the balenciaga knockoffs?
I think you're ace : >
now i'm not only jealous of your fashion prowess but also the fact that you have kittens to cuddle.
you look beautiful in the dress/headband! i'm so glad u're back...missed your entries the past week. don't let the negativity get to you and keep on doing what you love and do best:)
I think the best thing about this blog is the fact that you do so obviously have your own style which incoperates pieces that people might see and go "uh..." when it's on the hanger, but you always make it look amazing.
I'm glad you're back, though.
good on ya rumi.
fucking right, rumi.
you're beautiful, you have an incredible, unique style and you're a human being, for god's sake.
to all the people that feel they have a right to judge her for her style, smoking, whatever- stop reading her blog. seriously. better yet, start your own. YOU be the boring 'role model' you think rumi should be.
that headband is out of control. i love it.
I've only just started a blog of my own here at blogspot, but have been following your blog for the last few months. I love your blog, and i just have to say how gorgeous you are. And so stylish and cool! :)
Rumi you are the grunge princess keep doin yo thang, its in demand more than ever.
cute pictures
i really love that headband on you. it looks so good on you
i think you are great!do not change just beacause certain people are anrrowminded and ridicilously stupid!
u go girl!! ;)
touche
Rumi you are amazing! I love your blog, your style and your texts. You truly seem like a great person! Keep up the good work and ignore the haters :)
your style is amazing.
you're yourself.
x
i love your blog!
ye-ah, Rumi tell it like it is. and a big up yours to the fuckers who tell you to "dress like you used to", bastards.
We love you Rumi!
Rumi, I adore you! Your style is so fabulous. I'm wondering though, how tall are you actually? You look really tall but maybe that's because you're so thin and long-limbed :D I'm personally 174 cm and I wish I was shorter, because I really want to wear high heels like you always do, but I think they make me too tall :(
Well, take care!
Kaja, Norway
ps, how cool that you like reading my fellow Norwegian, Roald Dahl !! I do too :D
Ofcourse you and your style have changed, nothing stays the same, don't give f*ck on them, keep up the good work. x
i'm from the land of Aussssssss, and dude - u are the coolest thing ever!
fuk those who insult you!
you are one hundred percent fabulous! ex oh ex oh.
amazing outfit!
rumi.
you exhibit true passion.
and are a beautiful, unique individual.
you deserve all the goodness that is coming your way.
you work hard.
bottom line.
i seriously cannot.stand. negativity.
i find that we are ALL human and that we should be supportive of each other.
we laugh.we cry. we hurt.
keep on doing what you are doing as i know you inspire thousands of people all over the world.
x.
ps- what sam ed. boots did you get?
i ordered a pair off uo.com about 2weeks ago ( in whisky ) are they those ones? i can't wait to get them...which will probably be in a months time .grrrrr.
Yes girl !!! Well said, be yourself, this is the most important part :)
Oh Rumi, ever since I stumbled upon your blog months ago, I have been hooked and went back to your first posts and still follow your blog now. I like that your style has changed, its natural, I get bored easily too and change my preferences.
Lets just say that if you would get dreadlocks tomorrow, pierce your nose and start wearing tie dye, I would still be back checking on what Rumi is up to these days. Keep doing what youre doing.
holy moley. in the first photo you look like some sort've dark angel. gorgeous, gorgeous photo! i think it's safe to say it's my favorite ever. ohh i am in loveee with those headbands!
love the simplicity and the pop of jewels.
also, LOVING what you've said in this post. my dear i respect you and your strength and patience to the absolute most.
Love the Balenciaga knock-offs...wow!!
Great outfit as always and great post. I have always adored your style and your blog, keep on doing what you do and don't pay attention to any haters.
Stay as you are. Continue to be independent & honnest! Maybe your personality disturb some people but that's not their suffs!
I like to go on your blog (for few months) & see how independent you are in your style & choices. Okay I don't like every outfit but that's normal I don't share all your tastes, however I appreciate the reasoning. You dare to wear exactly what you want & that's great.
Thank you for being there!
Bisous
PS: sorry for my bad English, I wish you'll understand.. ^^
I totally agree with you: you'r not a role model. You are nice enough to share your fashion life. This post sort of make me feel sad for you, all those mean people have a huge impact on your mood and that's because they don't see you as a "human being" you'r just the beautiful virtual girl,...that's sad, they are pathetic.
I love fashion because it's always changing, never the same and we change too...my mood is my only inspiration and i guess it's the same thing for you.
Take care of you sweet Rumi and carry on posting your inspired outfits.
Love from france
I think it's the same everywhere ... France, US, GB ... People are just jalous, just don't care !
Love your outfit and your photos !!
Long time not comment (cause I read your site through my google reader now ;-)
Its already been said, keep on keeping on. I think the coolest thing is seeing where YOU being YOU has taken you. Its an interesting journey, I hope you get a chance to experience more, and thank you for sharing it with us all!
I am especially thankful for your Southern California backgrounds as I am huddled under a blanket in Hokkaido Japan missing my hometown! Thanks!
someones probabaly said this already cant be bothered to read the 1000 coments... but who gives shit what people think, if i stopped to consider what half the earth thought about me, id be in a mental home... the fact that you have haters means your doing something right... if you where bloging about shit, no one would bother commenting because they would be like wtf and click off and never ome back... take its a compliment, i know i would... that said im only human, i would have a slight erge to kick butts, then i would calm down and eat ice-cream or something only coz i dont have a kitten to cuddle...
You do so many things people would be scared to try- but that's just you being expresive or whatever right. I wear alota short short skirts too but if you don't have fun now when are you gonna do it. Glad you're back.
Take this,haters! ;D
And Tolkien? Now I have even more respect for you ;)
ya rumi, this is what I wanted to hear!
of course you are an individual with a huge creative energy otherwise you wouldn´t have been able to take this blog to where it is.
think about it: those people judging you only see this small facet of you that is your looks. you know your entire self.
it is obvious that there is no need to letting this come to your heart!
and I wear short skirts too and love stepping into a warm car- maybe there is some link between that..? haha.
xxx
i enjoy your blog, because of course the pictures, but also i love to read those random little things that you write that make me laugh. it's true that your blog is a breakfast blog, because i read it while im eating breakfast. and im eating toast now too :)
you look beautiful! those boots are perfection for you!
Rumi,
am totally glad you're back after that brief hiatus. i totally applaud you for addressing all te negative shit people have been saying lately, though i'm quite sorry it got to a point where you felt you had to. i'm proud of you for choosing to live life the way you want to, despite all the exposure.
Ignore the bored, ignorant people.
Focus on your life. I think it's definitely more exciting than their's.
Rumi, good on your for remaining level in response to the insults. Though I have to say those comments are inevitable. You have to take the rough with the smooth when you have a public profile, fact of life. Look at what people throw at Susie Bubble - totally uncalled for. There are just some really messed up people in the world and we all have to muddle on together.
you may not see your self/ or want to be a role model.
yet you do influence people in a huge way.
People want to be like you, hence why brands give you free clothes etc.
so it is sort of a responsibility.
You so fly. Leather shorts are hot. And that horn headband. Bow chika chika wah wah...
You so fly. Leather shorts are hot. And that horn headband. Bow chika chika wah wah...
oh rumi i really dont know how you put up with the negative comments-- but it's great that you can shove all that aside and keep going anyway. very admirable and definitely the kind of girl i want to be.
: )
It's not like all the negative commentary is harsh. Some of it was really constructive criticism that you should've listened to.
Girls look up to you whether you like it or not. Brands give you clothes because you're a highly influential person, as someone has said. If you're willing to take that 'fame', then you should take responsibility of being a better role model (especially regarding posting too revealing of outfits and smoking).
Rumi. You are amazing. The end.
Come to London so I can swoon over you; like the limp, pathetic, geeky fan-girl that I am.
You sound like a riot and I would kill to spend an hour or two with you, drinking hooch and smoking fags. xx
forget Michael Showalter i, your a genuis, well your outfits are always amaz-ing!
Well done!
x
cute outfit!
you keep doing what you do best, Rumi :)
These people commenting about how you are a role model are making me laugh; you're just a girl with some clothes and some friends doing her thing and posting the pictures! Next episode you need to smoke crack while visiting a factory farm and wearing a coat made out of kitten heads and bible pages.
And please do a Sam Edelman post ASAP; I have the same boots, but I feel like a monster when I wear them so they have never actually left the house!
if it looks like a coke whore, dresses, like a coke whore, and acts like a coke whore...it probably IS a coke whore. which is bad, whether you're a role model or not. GET HELP RUMI. you obviously have some MAJOR issues...you ask why people come to your blog if they don't like you, and here's the answer: you're like a trainwreck (a la Lohan), you don't wanna look, but it's such a mess, you can't look away. so keep the cokewhorin' up...it's quite entertaining!!
boring outfit. the head-band looks really bad/tacky with the rest. i suggest you take another week off to come up with something better.
If people don't like what they see on blogs, then they shouldn't view them. Its very simple. People take too much pleasure in trying to hurt others with words; pure jealousy. We are all human and not perfect. Rumi, I read your blog all the time and find your outfits to be most inspirational and wish I had the eye and courage to wear anything without fear. Your photos, clothing, etc. are amazing. Keep up the great work!
Yup, GO GO GIRL.
Live your own life (:
Ayone who can only say negative things about you could start their own blog. I'm very intrested to see how THEY dress. Because, obviously, they must wear FABULOUS outfits every day.
They can go to hell. What makes bloggers so appealing is the fact that they are normal people, not a celeb who can spend thousands on their clothes every day. If there is something I hate in this world it is people who make nothing wrong and because of that treat others like shit, and at the same time they are so obssessed to know what others think about them that they forget to think themselves. You're not like that, so keep up the good work and ignore the bastards!!!
love your headband..
Hehe, I think you sounds as a pretty normal girl with a fantastisc style:) Are you from America?:)
Can you pleas make a post about yourself, and what you done in your life so far:)
It's really very simple.
Don't like the blog? DON'T READ IT!!!
I however, think you and your blog are fabulous Rumi. Jealousy can be very ugly.
I missed the blog very much last week, especially since it's my only glipse of sunshine as I live in England and it's freezing!
Please let us see the Sam Edelmen's soon! xxx
lol what is it with these cowardly anonymous dumbasses?
anyway, i just found your blog recently, rumi, and i seriously spent hours looking through all your outfits and posts. you're awesome! seriously, you're one of the first fashion bloggers i've encountered who is both very intelligent and beautiful at the same time. :)
it's hilarious that some people want to ask you to change your personality and the way you dress just because they're close-minded, judgmental fools who're too busy clutching their bibles and pearls.
you don't need to listen to those dummies. most of them can't even spell XD
some people just want to hate
and those are the ones who are unable to create because they're wrapped up in their own self-loathing
who has the time to seek out to be wretched?
leave them
stefania
glad your back...outfit looks amazing, loving the baker boots & your inspiration pics...and yes, vintage moss is the best!!
xoxo from las vegas
I think you're an amazing blogger with amazing style, and you've been an inspiration to my closet since I found your blog. It's easy to forget that the people we see on the internet are actually real people but that doesn't excuse rudeness. Your style and lust for life can seem mystical but that makes you being a real person even better. You wear what you want to wear and do what you want to do. So keep doing what you do because for all the haters there are 10 people who think you're great.
Also, I'm not mad at you for putting that sweater in the store because I totally want to buy it. :)

For what it's worth, I admire you for putting yourself out there without apologies. This blog is a celebration of beauty and experimentation. Keep at it!
xo,

probably one of my favorite posts =) keep on living babe. also, if you have time there is a few things I'd like you to be a part of. can I email you at your gmail?
it would be boring if style didn't evolve and change and it would be less fun getting dressed if you didn't do it for you...i love looking back at your older looks and getting inspiration from them just as much as i love seeing what you come up with next. you always look seriously fierce girl!
ps, i love the pic of you in the little blue car, it's perfect!

I never really read your comments before but there are some seriously screwed up people online. It's just absurd- why would you bother to comment just to be nasty. Don't listen to them. We love u in oz!
ABSOLUTELY rumi! you have to live for you! glad to see you back.
those naysayers are just anonymous cowards.. just be the bigger person - and a better dressed one at that!
i love the outfit... every shoe that ive seen on your blog ive never hated lol.. and the black and white sweater is cute
That's what I am saying ;P
I'm glad you have a distance like that. You are what you are like anyone else.
i like quite the outfit but personally i am getting rid of those headbands
it's just not in my taste.
xoxo
I haven't commented in a while, but honestly, it really bugs me to see people taking out their frustrations on bloggers, or acting like those bloggers are some kind of vehicle for the readers' wish-fulfilment. I wish you didn't have to go through all that- after all, people do change and evolve and who are we to stop you? As long as you're happy, it's all that matters really. Even if that means a break from the blog to concentrate on real life.
PS: Absolutely agreed on Rodarte. And vintage Moss..I'm looking at 90s issues of Vogue and surprising myself with memories of how much I used to like her.
wow i don't know what's wrong with those people. if you won't say it i will:
y'all are nothing but a bunch of low-life scumbags who want to take the glory away from someone who's actually made something of themselves. FUCK OFF.
rumi, you're gorgeous, you have your own sense of style, just keep rockin' it.
I've been following your blog for awhile and have always found inspiration in the fact that you seem to be continuouslly growing and evolving. Through clothing-style and lifestyle. (isn't that what life is all about? growth.) I think the negative comments are written more to rattle you and get a reaction. After all, they are still checking to see if you've updated. We all come here to see what is new on fashion toast. :) And most times, its something awesome! Keep being you.
Also, that first pic is gorgeous!
Denshaga mairimas! Gochui kudasai .. keeroi sen no uchigawa made osagari kudasai .. Ahh I miss Tokyo .. Although I'm originally from Yokohama. I love the sound and watching the people sleep.
Im from Ireland and have been addicted to your blog for the last few months and I love it!!!
I dont understand why some people feel they have the right to insult someone they dont know and have never even met.
Do they not give a single thought on how much one stupid comment can affect someone so much...if those immature "haters" need to put other people down in order to make themselves feel good then they are the people with the issues.
Rumi, I think you have a great sense of style and fashion and hope you will keep doing what you are doing and feck all those idiots out there who have nothing else to do but be horrible to other people
xxx
you are surreality, amazing
I totally agree with your comment. People's style changes ALL the time, I think its almost impossible for it to stay the same. I brought things a year ago, that I now hate, and i'm sure in a year I will look back and think 'WHY did I buy that?!'.
You are amazing Rumi!
and yet again, another gorgeous outfit!
x
Rumi,
Live your life the way you want to. Don't listen to the negativity, listen to your heart. And to your fans! :) Everyone's style changes, evolves, for the better. Isn't that what fashion design and new collections are all about? Anyway, just wanted to say that I really love this outfit on you (crystallized headbands and fringe; two favorites of mine as well, you know!) And that I enjoy your inclusion of more photos for us to see. :)
Keep on keeping on...
love Fash. C!
xx
You are amazing, so cute and your clothes to.
XXX
I've been reading your blog for a while but never commented. I think you have such a great sense of style. You wear what you want to wear, which is how it should be.
I don't understand why some people think they have a right to tell you how to dress.
Everyone's style changes over time thats one of the things that makes it so interesting.
Anyway great outfit! Love the cardigan.
Glad you are back!
i bet atleast half of the people who comment don't even have their own blog (especially the people with negative comments) because they don't have enough guts to put themselves out there, especially put a picture up of themselves because they will probably be torn to shreds in seconds. they like making judgments, not being judged.
i missed you! so glad you're back!
Hands down hottest blogger ever. Please never stop!!
we come back because we get a kick out of talking shit ok your outfits. Like chris crocker, what crazy thing will he do next. Consider yourself a guilty pleasure.
oh you are not getting the sam edelmans, too cool! those shoes are still my biggest fashion crush in history. when you get them, if you could let us in on how you got them I would be really thankful <3
as long as there are talented and successful people like you who do what they love and are good at it, there will always be others who will try to pull them down. even if people don't like your style or you (i'm not sure why!), there is no reason to be outright mean. and those who are come off as immature and negative, btw. people who are mean are usually jealous, angry, unhappy or just plain sadistic. obviously, you make enough of an impact on these people who write mean comments to make them regularly check your blog and even comment.
i figure, as long as you do what you want to do and you're happy, more power to you. AND you're stylish and talented. geez, you suck. haha, jk...i honestly do think you are awesome! but really, as long as YOU think so, screw the rest of em
Very inspirational post, and not just in the context of fashion.
Keep on doing your thing Rumi. You are gorgeous and talented and any success that comes your way has been worked for and is ridiculously well-deserved - the amount of energy and time and love put into this blog is astounding.
You definitely have a supporter in me.
xo

P.S. It IS a superb outfit, the dress just drapes so gorgeously!
hi i just wanted to say your pictures are getting better..the poses and quality are really nice.. good job to your photographer!
aahhahah i love sam edelemans "inspiration wall" on his website..he has indian backgrounds and "grandmas closet" they should go ahead and post pics of the runways they rip off eveery season nontheless i love sam edelman shoes though..make it affordable for us. YOURE AMAZING!
Why do you even bother anymore? People are hating on you more and more and it's really fun to watch.
That's one of the reasons why I come here. You dance to the beat of your own drum and that's what I love about the way you carry yourself.
So whoever giving you hell for that needs to get over themselves.
awww thats why you were gone for so long... well i guess its something we all go through... whether it be on blogs or in life.
im glad you've thought things out.
stay the way you are.
where did you find the balenciaga knock offs?
Here's some pictures of my Sam E, Balenciaga knock offs:
http://royalbluemoss.blogspot.com/2008/11/sam-edelman-balenciaga-knockoff.html
So bc brands give her free clothes, all of a sudden she has to "take responsibility"? Rumi's a blogger not a UN ambassador. Jeez!
It's not you Rumi. You're probably very normal. Everyone sees the voyeuristic fashion side of you, not the cute kittens side. I think you've crossed the line where people see you as public property -up for scrutiny and consumption.
i think being yourself is one of the most important and best things we can do in this life.. especially being yourself in the present. people should be open to that. we are all only human. and you are a beautiful human! thank you for sharing your style and thoughts with us, people really are inspired by you. :)
great photos! you look stunning :)
The only thing I don't like is the fact that I can't pull up the imageshack images at work, because "personal storage" is blocked.
Boooo
Other than that, you're darling and so is your site.
:)
love your style! :D
haha, where did you buy the Sam Edelman knock off balenciagas? from ebay?? because i was bidding on a pair on ebay and i lost and maybe it was you!! :)
Well Rumi, I guess the price of fame is attracting freaks. You're telling them to go elsewhere but I think they're too obsessed to go elsewhere!
Just when I was getting tired of fringe you make it look awesome again.
carolyn, I thought I was the only unfortunate person whose work blocks webpages. Only from my office whole fashiontoast is blocked as "organizational e-mail"!
it's not easy doing what you're doing putting yourself out there for the world to see. and you've been doing a great job. keep it up. you're an inspiration to shy gals who love fashion!
<3<3<3
best post ever.
dear rumi,
be yourself forever and always! the negative mafia can go elsewhere and drop there cloud of &%$#. a million thank you's for all your inspiring photos, words, moments, etc.
melissa
geez. i've never seen a collective group so far up one person's ass in my life. when you all crawl out of rumi's bum, please come join me on the couch to watch the trainwreck that is RUMI!!
i have so much shit to say about this topic but first off- your outfit. the headband is really something else! it POPS and looks great on you.
you know, there are SO many things i wonder.
1- why people don't find something better to do if they don't have something nice to say
2- HOW well you seem to take these idiots' comments
3- why the fuck these idios act like this and don't work on improving themselves instead of throwing harsh comments at others
i recently did a post (or 2) on this subject. i hope you get a chance to read it. if only i could see these fuckers' faces, despite the fact that i am little, i would beat the shit out of them. but wtf, i'm better than that. and it's not like they'd have the face to come out anyway because they're cowards.
bottom line is, nothing is wrong with you. these people just have their own insecurities and they are able to show it VERY WELL. i felt very much the same way with how you've described that you are a normal person on this post. people had shit to say because i wear some things that are out of reach for a lot of people. well, that is not my fucking problem. if you want it, work for it and stop sitting on your ass wishing and hoping. in your case, people want to dress as well as you do and be like you in one way or another. but they will never be. not because they don't have the eye for fashion like you do, but because of their attitude. so, that is their problem, not yours. i was reading the comments above me and was so glad that there weren't any neg comments until, of course, there just HAD to be a dumb ass that said something. why? because you called them out on it and thankfully for them, they still have a subconscience. they're jealous because you get free clothing and have gotten to go to all these awesome events. it's tragic because they could make something of themselves while they're wasting their time hating on you. what they don't understand is that they don't HAVE to be good at fashion. it could so well be other aspects of life. anyway, this is getting really long. but i think that many of us who have gotten harsh comments can all come together and have fucking donuts with tea (coz you know, alcohol is a NO NO here) and talk about it alllll day long. you are great the way you are. as long as you're happy and headstrong, that's all that matters. i'm sure that you know that :) keep doing what you're doing, you are great at it. <3
lol at the pathetic hater comments.
i'm glad you're not letting them get to you :)
i mean, just look at people like alice dellal and lou doillon. they're gorgeous and have awesome style, but i bet there are lots of dumb people calling them "cokewhores" too.
you don't need to listen to jealous people whose idea of fashion is wearing twinsets and sensible shoes. :D keep on rockin'.
right on rumi!
i'm so happy u are back...and love the freedom of style you represent.

YAY! A new post. I thought I was having Rumi withdrawal! <3 Looking beautiful, as always. I like your attitude about the negative comments. :) Keep doing what you do.
I've been reading your blog for months, and have held off commenting more due to the sheer volume of other people doing so than anything else.
But something about this post compelled me to do so,
the realness of it perhaps? The stark reminder that blogging can get out of hand (for want of a better phrase) and people forget that we/you are all human.
I admire you for adventuring with clothes,
and for riding above the abuse.
I look forward to seeing more from you.
DaisyChain.
I love this blog! I just found out, so I read it from the first post to most recent and your style HAS changed. Now I can barely tell a diff between your style/Erin Wassons. Sometimes it seems like most bloggers turn into a carbon copy Wasson. But, I love reading it and you seem down to earth. Keep up the pretty pics!
i think you're awesome.
boo haters.
i think you're awesome.
boo haters.
I've been kicking myself for what feels like years now for not buying the Sam Edelman Balenciagas when they were on the Victoria's Secret website... congrats!
And amen to your post- the fact that you are yourself with no apologies is the most inspirational thing you can do.
rummiii
your a tolkien and rohl dahl fan? ahah where have you been all my life? oh man you have no idea, i am such a nerd for lord of the rings..i have read all of them and missed school for the movie premiers ahah. and dahl leaves me with so many nostalgic memories of my childhood, the bfg, the twits ahah wow.
and you look beautiful as always. as for those Sam Edelman's..damnnnnn i cant wait to see you wear them with skinny jeans. wow i want them soooo badlyyyyyyyy

Right on! As for the haters, all I can say is that there are some real WEIRDOS online...
rumi, as always you're amazing for everything that you are. and i have to figure out a way to make a horn headpiece. if i do , ill make you one too.
Probably one of your best posts yet in terms of written content....not really my favorite outfit tho, mainly just cause the headband thing has been done so often. I love the backless dress tho...and I think its really great how well you take all the negative/downright rude and offensive comments that people feel compelled to say.
Rumi you SHOULD dress in the way you like! first off all because your style it's so damn cool! simply but amazing, never banal... you're great! you have the power to transform every single pieces of an outfit in somethnig special! and this is an hard work!!! for me you've got a strong personality... much more than some professional model!!! I like to change my style... one day I could dress like you, one day like Betty (http://www.leblogdebetty.com/), two diffrent styles... somethimes at the antipodes, but why not?? I think that in fashion "Do & Don't" don't exixst!! FREDOOM... this is the keywords!!!
great earrings, boots and all what you love!Great style with that Balmain-ish boots and simple black dress. You are the one who can wear headbands!Perfect!
Hot hot hot!!
i adore your blog rumi. you need to take it in whatever direction you want, it's your blog and your life. I was actually very curious to see what you would say about the comments you mentioned and I've very happy with your response. I love your looks and I think it wonderful to see all that you accomplish and all the people that you meet. You have way more supporters than downtalkers anyway. Keep it up!
dont let those idiots get to you, if they dont like you they shouldnt come back to your blog, simple!!! you look great in the post xo
Rumi, I love your blog and your amazing style! You are so beautiful!!! I HATE those anonymous comments
Coke Whores don't have style like you do! Keep it up, the blog is awesome:)
Well said, Rumi.
This post just further instills the majority belief that you are not only astoundingly beautiful outside, but your inside also mirrors this.
Those anonymous compliments are ridiculous, but also further proves that since you have such a large following you're bound to generate jealousy. The negativity really is sad. There is a way to be constructively critical without attacking.
I am glad that you are not letting the negativity deter you from continuing to post because I enjoy your blog.
Thank you for this entry. I hope the negativity stops. Your entry has made you more endearing and is poignantly human. Please continue the posts.
glad your back because your awsome!!
xx
I am a new reader to your blog and I absolutely love it and not because you fit in the way I think people should look (I would never do that to anyone) but because you live your life and your style the way you want.It makes you different, it makes you .. you! That's why I like your blog and thats why I come back so please don't change.
It looks like your not going to so good for you.
i love all this confidence you have! i must admit, i hardly share the same style as you, but i do admire your sense in fashion! :)
yes to not giving two s**** for what ppl think :]
xoxo
La C
Haha the people that were bashing you are ridiculous.
Really? They are going to talk about your lifestyle?
What are they doing that is so great that they have the time to scrutinize and wright nasty comments on your blog.
I bet they are really out there changing the world haha.
You are a beautiful stylish girl, and i'm glad you always stay true to yourself.
Give me headband!!!
You said it! You are amazing, Rumi, and don't listen to the haters! To act as though blogs are there please you is just idiotic and selfish. I love those devil horns! Great outfit, as per usual. I especially love the headband.
one should wear what they feel is right at a particular time. we change as time changes and people just need to accept it. nevermind those who say they'd rather you had kept a certain style. i love everything you wear not because of what it is, but how you wear it.
"I am a normal person for everything weird and un-weird that I do. I am not a role model. Take it or leave it."
Awesome.
Glad to have you back. :]
Good job sticking up for yourself... i think your style is brilliant. it sucks that anyone implied you to be a disapointment, and it is good you didn't let it ruin your integrity.
YOU are SO inspirational and human
I love ittt
Keep being true to yourselfff
thats all that matter
Lucky!! I wanted those Sam Edelman Balenciaga knockoffs for so long. I couldn't find them anywhere or even now.
And I love that you're speaking out about those people and the issues they bring up about you "changing" and being a supposed "coke whore" (?!!?). It's malicious jealousy and you are obviously taking the higher road. Kudos to that!
well said. And I <3 vintage Moss.
possibly a new favorite outfit.it looks soo you.
love your blog and have always loved it- ur posts are inspirational in the sense that you look at clothes from a different angle and perspective and you put together random pieces together i would never choose so flawlessly and you inspire me to do the same. ルミちゃんがんばってね〜。
Gloves would be so hot!!
Hi Rumi, Sarah here. Just wanted to know what are YOUR favorite blogs to visit??
I like your a lot blog, but really how often do you go shopping?
yay! welcome back. :) you've been missed.
hi rumi, i think its great u came to that realization (take it or leave it haters) urself.. it shows ur maturity & confidence in urself... which of course comes thru in the way u dress.. to please no one but urself. i think its awesome & i <3 ur blog & ur style for its uniqueness..
People are jealous, and run their lives from their egos. xx
