Shredder

Secondhand shirt, RVCA pants, Zara boots.

I feel like the blogger homework of late is to have a go at Camille's genius shredded shirt project a la Raquel Allegra. How she figures this stuff out is beyond me, but after I decimated a white Fruit of the Loom I got the hang of it. Never mind Colin looking at me like I had gone mad, even when I politely offered to shred one of his too. It probably says something really strange about my personality that I actually find the process enjoyable and weirdly addicting.

I used an old Army shirt complete with "Lopez" scrawled in pen on the neck. There's no tag but I think the composition is cotton/poly - I'm no pro but I found the process to be a little easier with the slightly stretchy material than I did with the 100% cotton one because the threads are more forgiving and less likely to snap when you tug too hard. Which, if you are like me, you inevitably will. Also, I noticed that the wider I started the panels out at the bottom, the easier it was to continue it upwards. I think I'm going try it out on tie dye next.

That came out really well. I have a tank, but I want to do a shirt now.

Yes, it is addicting. =)

It's so neat! I would probably do the same. How long did it take you, front and back?

WendyB said...

Soon everyone will have entire shredded wardrobes!

CC said...

Rumi, did you shred just one panel? I was wondering if the vertical lines just come out naturally or do oyu have to shred several panels to get that effect?

Fashion Pariah said...

Ooh looking good. Looks like it's just me who hasn't had a go yet, lol!!

Thanks Mickie ;)

Instant, sweet I'm not a complete freak then.

JEYQ, equipped with a seam ripper it took me about two hours. This would have been more like two years if it was 100% cotton.

WendyB lol new goal.

CC, I did three general panels on the entire shirt, but within them you can create the vertical lines by shredding around completed panels..if that makes any sense.

FP you're up.

Rumi, you have the most fabulous shoe collection! I'd love to be able to pull them off as effortlessly as you do!

Looking gorgeous as always. :)

Camille is fantastic! I forget sometimes that she is 15 years old. Her style and ideas are superb.

I also tried this but had problems with my 100% cotton tee.

In this circumstance, I think the cheaper the tee, the easier it is to deconstruct???

Can anyone please tell me a specific brand of t-shirt to use??
It would be much appreciated :)

Thats so awesome! Im basically the most gimped d.i.y person. My tee would be threads after I tryed that!

I've just tried it out on a fitted long sleeve knitted turtleneck and it's so sexy!
Basically, I cut off the bottom hem, the turtleneck and the sleeves' hem, and made a wide shredded panel at the front and along each sleeve. It's quite easy with knitwear because the yarn is thicker thus more durable, but its fibers tend to tangle so it needs a bit more pulling.
I have to warn you - it's highly addictive! Good luck and God have mercy on your boyfriends' tshirts.
