I've been vaguely pondering what I want to purchase for fall. So far I've only gotten as far as black lace, leather, chartreuse, and those Emma Cook/Topshop ankle boots that I probably won't be able to get my hands on. I never really buy with an overall plan in mind anyway, it seems I just end up acquiring randomly when something strikes my fancy and hoping it all comes together. But I remembered a photo Scott Schuman took of some semi-scraggly NYU students and did a quick search on it - the girl on the left steals the show and was the one whose image was seared into my mind. I love the gold chain bracelet and it's my new goal to find a vintage coat that sweet. An image to keep in mind when I'm tempted to purchase everything in black as it gets colder.

because I'm a cheap bum, I buy my chain jewelry at the hardware store. I recently got this huge silver chain for a bracelet that honestly looks like something that was made to be worn, not hung. so check your local Anawalts or something, because then you can customize the size and length.

Her outfit is kind of boggling my mind. Neon swimsuit, wood bead necklace, v-neck sweater-thing, and fur collar coat? Wow, gotta give her props.
I also like the girl on the far right, too. She looks so effortlessly Heidi (not montag or klum, but the children's book character).
I never plan what I´m going to buy either. Just like you I shop on impulse and hope it all comes together. But I´ve been thinking lately, maybe it´s better to plan ahead? Then you might not end up with all of those things that never get used :)

what a wonderful coat i love the fur trim and that shade of blue is is great! I'm really into midnight blue at the moment (even though that coat isn't).
I love they way they look, especially the girl on the right, with the white sweater.

and I agree with caroline rose, I love chunky chains but I'm a student, so I go to hardware stores to get what I want(need)
There's a jacket at H&M pretty alike the one in the pictures.
At least here in Sweden, I don't know if you've got the same stuff as us.
All i know is that two of them are twins who are models and that appear in the new urban outfitter catalogue- love the coat as well

I'm just like you. sometimes I look for things but it's very tiring.. we don't have here in Israel everything you want.. so I just buy lovely pieces and in the end it comes togther... imediatly or sometimes after a while if the piece is problematic.

i think EVERYONE ones those emma cook boots...i bet they will sell out so quick so hopefully we will be lucky! you should check them out in teen vogue recently...i think the august issue? they pair them with the house of holland electric blue plaid pants and the result is sick.
just this weekend i purchased a faux fur vintage coat and i love it sooo much! i was totally planning on wearing it with garbs of gold jewelery. it's extremely sixties-esque and just lovely... good luck hunting!

That girl was totally my inspiration for this winter! I already had a similar coat from a previous winter from a store here called sportsgirl. I'm in Australia so am looking for summer inspiration now :)
I am wondering about those Emma Cook boots too! There is a pair of bright blue open toe shoes on the Topshop site I am also coveting.
The coat with the trim is great. I love how it's all paired down with sneakers too.
