Okay it isn't actually a garbage bag. But I couldn't resist picking this could-be-mistaken-for-one skirt up at an LA thrift store last week. It's almost hopelessly trashy, but I of course wanted to salvage it and give it a chance to shine. I regard it as the horrible cousin of my sweet vintage leather skirts (bid on a more acceptable skirt here) and AA lamé ordeal, but I honestly have no clue what it's composed of...vinyl? Yeah no clue. So, in a very Blog de Betty-style multiple outfit post, here are the incarnations I came up with.
The kit:
Vintage boots, Forever 21 leather jacket, hat, and sweater, Balenciaga bag, Jeffrey Campbell heels.
The experiments:
Right off the bat, I wanted to make it pass for casual wear alongside these battered vintage boots and obnoxious hat. I for some inexplicable reason liked the pairing of the shine and the leather jacket, though I assume most would..not. But then all of a sudden I pictured Lohan wearing similar garb, which kind of ruined it. It also bothered me that the hat looks like it came as part of a matching set with the tank top. Moving on.
My mummy heels are already proving to unexpectedly make sense with a lot of different looks (see here and here), and to imagine I was doubting the army green! This silhouette is hardly progressive but I love it. Would wear.
Tucked in, more fabric..err vinyl real estate is exposed. I would perhaps save this incarnation for when my boyfriend is around. No one bothers me when I am with him.
Have I ever worn a sweater on this blog? I am suddenly thinking not. Especially not one of the turtleneck variety. I actually own a lot. This is one of my favorites, not least because when I hold it up it looks like a gigantic knit plus sign. It takes actual seconds to decide which hole to put my head through.
Next up:
Additionally, I am agonizing over a vest situation...I need to keep this right?

OMG KEEP THE VEST!!!!!!! It would look SO good on you! And I was SO excited when i finally saw the lame dress in BLACK!!!!!! i've been wanting it ever since but I already have the lame skirt and I never wear it enough. Please get it and model it for us :) That would probably be much better than burning a hole in my wallet :)

i love look 4/4. it looks comfortable and chic. a combo that's hard to come by at times!

Second, the vest? Nah... the dress underneath it is amazing though.
Third, those mummy shoes are pretty amazing.
And finally, I don't really care for the... vinyl that much. I think your AA skirt would cut the mustard on this one.

Second and forth are my favorites. I like the forth because I've never seen that kind of top on you before? Mmm not crazy about the vest.

I like all of these versions, although the first do not vary that much I find? Anyways, it is even better than the AA lamé mini, I LOVE it! Those Jeffrey Campbell shoes are to die for, too! I do like the skirt with the jacket.

hey I love that lame skirt, and a while back you paired it with the glads, which looked amazing. What size would u recommend that might prevent it from looking trashy tho? I'm on the thhin side everyone except I randomly have hips and a butt lol, but im short. Like 5'3".

I have been going back and forth on those jc shoes (in navy, though)-- like literally back and forth to the shoes store to try them on-- for six months. Almost cracked on them last weekend, didn't, and then picked up an extra shift so I could get my paws on them this weekend. Too good.

Hell yeah keep the vest, Balmain anyone? I loved everything Balmain sent down the runway and this is very reminiscent of the fringe, whipstitch, and suede vests from that show so you be better keepin that shit! I sure would if I were you. I think the Jeffrey Campbell heels are fantastic. By the way, that AA lame tube dress has to be the most glorious thing I have seen all day!
