Texas Tuxedo Version 2.0

I received a smattering of random items from Forever21 this morning, including this men's shirt that I loved an unexpected amount. I always have a general leeriness towards my orders from there, since the quality is so all over the place -I usually end up buying in semi-bulk and sending a good amount of things back. Which is why I can definitely see why it might an exercise in frustration to purchase internationally from them. But back to the shirt, it's striped in a sort of opaque white/sheer white combination, and the henley style looks exactly how I wanted it to unbuttoned, plus I think it's long enough to wear tunic-like with the trusty lamé leggings. Also purchased were these fierccccce rings. Can you tell I like to wear new things immediately upon receipt? But, of course, my staples of fringe bag and gladiator heels were in full force. I actually first put this all together to shoot a pair of Levi's for my store and ended up liking it enough to frolic about in the rest of the day.

But for the sake of experimentation, I tried it with this secondhand converted jacket/vest, and the whole thing is kind of an eyesore and I probably wouldn't wear it in real life but am kind of drawn to the double denim horror. Or maybe I'm just smoking the crack pipe. Are we recoiling?

I think you need to change up your style a bit... you wear the same things really.... you always wear jean shorts and a white shirt and pair it with some heels and accessories its kind of boring

^i disagree, you look fabulous. great outfit. cute accessories, that nailpolish is yummy!!

Ooh I love this top! Im also loving the rings, and what adorable shade of nail polish is that? Okay youve officially gotten me super excited to visit f21 when I make my big US trip this weekend. Even though I always get discouraged since it looks like a bomb exploded and a tornado ripped through.. I will be forcing myself to look through the rubble =D

Well thanks for visiting, but all I'm doing here is documenting and sharing my outfits. I'm not trying to put out avant garde ideas or stun people with my interpretation of the latest trend every single day. I wear what I feel like wearing, and I post it. That simple. I spend a lot of time wearing and styling all the vintage for my store (lamé romper? high waisted buffalo plaid shorts? ruched white disco dress? check, check, check), which obviously I love and maybe it makes me feel like I'm not wearing the same thing all the time, but honestly in the end I just wear what I want to wear because I feel like wearing it.

Thanks Nita and R, and yeah I totally see the whole bomb exploding thing, especially at the San Francisco store where there is just SO MUCH to sift through. Which is why I usually end up ordering online these days out of sheer laziness.

I also disagree with anonymous!
your outfits never fail to be anything less than innovative.

I love the studded bracelet (slightly hermes)
where did you find that?

LOVE LOVE LOVE the rings! I'm definitely going to have to get those. I just went on the forever 21 website and the only size left for that shirt is a large. What size is yours?

rz said...

rumi, i love how you post your day to day outfits. the styling you do for your store is exciting, and geez not to mention the time and effort it takes to compose the photographs with you wearing your outfits, the mood and feel of each photo is not boring at all. know that you are appreciated!

Devon maid, haha I think that's what I was thinking when I got it, I dream of someday owning one of those crazy Hermes cuffs...but I got this one at Forever21 a year ago or so. I really shop there too much.

Anon, thanks, mine's actually a large, it's definitely slouchy but I wanted it like that, my own personal boyfriend shirt haha. You know, I feel like it would be a bit weird on a guy with the amount of sheerness going on anyway.

RZ, you're too kind, thank you so much :)

I disagree with the first comment as well, I love your blog and check it daily, simply because of how creative and inspiring all your outfits are :)

OMG those rings are awsome! and I'm so in love with thise Nine West shoes... want them so bad :-(

The biggest problem with the internet is that idiots get to leave comments..do you know that phrase 'if you dont have anything nice to say..' The first commenter of today is so blindingly jealous of your effortless style and beautiful looks they had to say something rude..and oh look-they didnt even have the guts to write there name! lets not speak of the naysayers anymore- i actually like the double denim look you pull it off and i have checked your blog every day for a couple of months and I am far from bored!
im desperate for this beautiful emilio pucci summer dress on net-a-porter its the most beautiful pale yellow print and im considering robbing a bank to own it.

nice nail colour! :)

I'm neutral about the jean vest. It's not an eyesore, but it doesn't strike me as cool either. The shirt however looks so comfy and laid back, love it.

you`re outfits are simply but extravagant. i really like it. everytime i enter Your blog i am delighted. you`re my inspiration;]

I have to comment just for arguments sake. I totally disagree with the first anonymous. You are definitely inspirational with your style. I discovered you through WWWD and have been checking this blog daily ever since. I think your style is so simple and laid back but still very unique. Keep it up!

On another note, I am not a fan of the denim on denim. I do appreciate the pieces seperately. Maybe it has somehting to do with the light shades of the whole outfit?

sugarxnspice said...

Oh, I love the henley, the fringe, the sandals and the RINGSSSS gosh so many things going on but they match perfectly! this is proof that the 1st anonymous obviously does not know what he/she is talking about.

I read your blog daily since i discovered it from WWWD too! You're one of the most stylish people I've ever seen :)

Tina said...

Hah, kind of funny how people are arguing back and forth about the first comment. This is your style so obviously it is going to look "the same" sometimes. Nonetheless you've got a chic style going so I say keep it up. Love the Nine West heels and the jewels.

TresChic said...

i am all for bringing bag the nineties..but i am not as ready for the texas tuxedo yet as i thought. i like it without the vest though.

I agree with Katie from UK...I visit your blog everyday and I'm far from bored! :)

The shirt is just gorgeous and it looks really cool with these denim shorts...

The denim vest gives a little bit of a grunge look, the first version is better :)))

I love the Henley - I know what you mean about F21, I wish they had a ratings system like AA to make it easier to buy online.

And while I prefer the plain look, the denim on denim looks sorta cute, and is surprisingly not OTT which can happen with too much denim. But you pull it off really well!

Thanks for posting all your outfits, it must be a lot of hard work but it is much appreciated from someone who uses your blog for fashion inspiration. Love your style and keep up the good work :)

Don't change a thing, Rumi. I love how you included the vest pic even though you didn't like it much. It's like any one of us trying things out to see what works. Also, keep repeating your shoes, Levi's shorts, etc. That's why your blog is so addictive! You mix things up and inspire visitors to try new things without having to spend a fortune every time. Don't change a thing! Thanks for your hard work. You are inspiration at our fingertips. All but one are grateful viewers!

The denim on denim reminds me of Erin Wasson and one of her shoots. (Love her!)

PS. Love the rings. They're awesome.

Pamcasso said...

accessories look great, and honestly all this lighter denim is growing on me- but I'm probably a ways off wearing it. I really love this look on you- mixing denims is brave!

i bought that ring too, how cool

Kiz said...

It's cute with the vest. Love that studded bracelet! Where did you get that at?

Ashley said...

Are your shoes comfy? I'm currently in the air between those and a Steve Madden platform pair. I worry because the NW's don't have a platform...

Opinion?

i love your shoes!!!!!!!

Yeah I would only go to Forever 21 in person because sometimes when you see the item its not that desirable anymore. The henley purchased looks excellent on you!

I LOVE THIS LOOK! i want those shorts... please post them up soon! and i love all your bracelets.

LOVE the new digs! I always do the same thing (wear right away). Its the excitement of something new!

Oh god why must you make me drawn to the texas tux??!

WendyB said...

I think you need to upgrade to a silver Diana ring by WendyB :-)

Hanna said...

I adore your style, not everyone can pull off looking casual without looking disheveled. And yeah, you wear a lot of denim shorts and white tees. I wear a lot of dresses. Your outfits don't have to be spectacularly original every day, everyone has their standard look, and it doesn't have to mean that it's boring

sam. said...

gotta be the crack pipe...jk! too much denim going on, although i'll admit i did rock a tex.tux back in 98'...take care :)

abisola said...

Maybe it is time to rock the texas tuxedo again! sometimes it isnt what you wear just how confident you look in them (isnt that the essesnce of 'cool'?)
i think you look great, im all up for offending people with what i wear! haha

Hey, I really love your studded bangle. Where is it from? ♥

Anonymous said...

I went into F21 a few days back and caught myself thinking "is this something Rumi would wear?" while checking out numerous articles of clothing.
Is that creepy? You inspire me so much that I've begun to look at items that I before would never have given a second chance. I don't try to replicate your style, per se, but some things strike me as Rumi-esque and I wonder how you would incorporate them into your outfit and if, maybe, I could pull them off half as effortlessly as you do in your daily wear.

Oh, and I, too, disagree with the first poster since your style is far from boring and you never cease to amaze. :]

Anonymous said...

Nail polish ID pretty please?

Anonymous said...

you never cease to look amazing

Anonymous said...

Fashion Chalet, she said the studded bangle is from Forever 21 from over a year ago.

Rumi, have you ever been to For Love 21? I'm pretty sure it's Forever 21's sister store but it's all accessories. Just thought you might be interested--I always pop in there from time to time to pick up some inexpensive jewelry

Anonymous said...

you look beautiful & your page has really inspired me.

kristina said...

What brand/color nailpolish is that? Just wondering cause we have the same skintone, so I know/hope it would look good on me too.

Anonymous said...

I love how your style is never too outrageous, a bit modest, but then again.. daring--? I don't even know how to describe your style but everything is so well balanced. anyway, enough with the compliments, i'm sure you get a lot. i really just want to ask you how you get by wearing your clothes without being bothered by sleezy men or rude people gawking and staring at you. i feel like i can only wear short shorts and high heels when i'm with my boyfriend. when i'm alone, going grocery shopping or something, I dont have the guts to wear my short shorts or nice dresses without feeling like i'm crying out for a date-rape. im just curious about your reactions to ppl staring and nasty looks from men.

the denim shorts work on you, but i don't know how i feel about the double denim. however, if anyone could pull it off ...

Anonymous said...

rumi, i recently got two rings from forever 21 and they both turned my fingers blue :( does this happen to you? i've been hesitate to buy jewelry from them since.

Anonymous said...

AH, I need that huge silver ring! I can't believe it's from F21.

Anonymous said...

yeah that's why I don't where short things + heels. I hate unwanted attention. But it's annoying as well as I love that combination. I do like or better yet, LOVE the denim on denim. It's definitely something I would try if I had the items..

Hannah Cheeto said...

Wow! I usually hate denim on denim but you are like the master of pulling it off!

Love her sandals.... my wooden heel sandals from Boden matches perfectly to my dress & looks pretty also.
