Mice on toast and watermelon juice

Okay by this time I was getting sick of everything I had packed. Really, really sick, or more specifically, impulse purchase vulnerable sick. So after dragging a tireless man friend around Robertson Blvd. (the day of the Chanel opening!) and becoming thoroughly depressed by the Givenchy and Chloe shoes and Chanel sunglasses I couldn't afford, I went into LF for some friendlier prices and bought these Jeffrey Campbell mummy-esque (in the wrapped zombie way) Proenza knockoffs. Do note that they are weirdly much cheaper at Nordstrom, I've been had! Oh well. I like the army green enough to almost not be bitter.

We found this pretty park in Culver City after excitedly parking nearby to go to the Museum of Jurassic Technology, only to find that it didn't open till 2. I suppose it was foolish to expect such an establishment to operate on a normal schedule, and we decided it was most likely run by vampires. We killed time in the park until it opened, daintily sipping watermelon juice and raspberry lemonade. But the wait was well worth it. Let me tell you, it was the oddest, most WTF-inducing experience I've had in a while..everything from taxidermied rabbits to real mice corpses on toast (seriously) to an entire room dedicated to the fine art of cat's cradle and microscopic artwork done in the eyes of needles, all in an eery almost pitch black environment. LA people need to grab their weirdest friends and check this out (and make sure to linger in the Soviet space dog gallery and tea room upstairs!). I told my friend that he should plan on taking all future first dates there to test their taxidermy stamina. He calmly responded that he had already planned on doing so.

Note that this is what my hair looks like when I haven't touched a hairbrush for three days, I of course managed to forget this extremely necessary device before driving up. Then I foolishly sprayed this weird salt spray in it, which only served to tangle even further. It took some serious muscles to brush it out when I got home, which was kind of a shame, since I'm pretty sure I was forming my first authentic dreadlocks.

A huge thank you to R the Friar for his immaculate hosting skills and teaching me the glory of Guitar Hero. I guess I need an X Box now.

Your outfits are so simple, yet so classy! I love your style. I've been reading your blog for some time, but it's my first comment. I've become an avid reader:-).
BTW, I'll have to check this weird museum out when I'm in the US some time:-).
Warm greetings from Poland.

Having only discovered your site last week, it is sad to say that I'm getting slightly too obsessed. Not sure if it's because I'm looking for ay excuse to not study for my uni finals, or I'm just a sad little 21 year old who's got nothing better to do (no harm in that is there?). Anyhow, this is my favourite look, simple but chic. Loving those shoes!!!

i'm actually totally loving your hair in its semi-dread state lol...i got the bebe version of those shoes and, despite loving them, sent them back b/c they were so cheaply made (and oddly more expensive)...what are your thoughts on the jeffrey campbell one??

MJT is one of my fav. places ever period. And, yes, I went there on a date. Having tea in the upstiars room is pretty cool too, and afterwards we went to Obsolete on Venice. It was a surrealist date for sure.

♥ Rumi-- I have to tell you that your outfits are always FLAWLESS!!!

Your blog updates always make me smile and my heart flutter a little faster in a way that only fashionable, inspiring fashionistas can make it! :)

As Carrie once (in a way) said, Fashion just feeds me more. Street style truly does inspire me!! :) :) And yours certainly is at the top!

*Speaking of watermelon juice, my Mom invented the most amazing "smoothie".
:: Watermelon, fat free milk (or vanilla silk), ice and a few teaspoons sugar in the raw... ::
Completely SCRUMPTIOUS! I'm sure you would love it. ♥

the balanciaga bag is still super sexy.
I still not saw a bag i would buy sinec this one.

Yay for fans of shoes! I like the green ones as well. The black ones are nice though - but I think you should get black in the other JC's we liked - maybe if you can find it at Nordstroms though.

Where was the Chanel opening? I was there and I don't even remember that. Probably because I was too focused on eating my turkey meatloaf sandwich and Michael Bolton.

Dude, you failed to mention the "flowy" dog/mini-pony in the secret tea room.

And for all yall that are curious - Rumi kicks ass at Rock Band/Guitar Hero. She was playing on Hard difficulty after her second day! I think it was her years of violin practice that were kicking in.

Oh and hand blowers in McDonald's bathrooms make decent hair dryers I think - what do you say?

Yelp RULES! Later, compadre.

L-O-V-E the shoes! :D

This outfit is absolutely effortlessly chic in the words of the late YSL. The shoes are superb and I love that red mini on you... I wish I had the legs to pull it off!

Hats off from New York

OMG! I just emailed my BF who works in LF about those shoes before I read your post! LOL. She works at the Robertson store too. SUPER CUTE~

Rumi said...

Thank you!! So here's the report on the shoes - one of the reasons I bought them immediately was the fact that they have this really cushiony insole that makes them feel like..sneakers. I swear. But after a half day of wearing them, the part that hits the highest part of my ankle was forming a painful blister. Solved by unzipping the back a bit, but still. I am now a little leery. Also, they run a size big, I got a 6! I am never a 6. I will definitely wear them and take blog photos of the shoe profile, but for the meantime you can check them out in a couple auctions I have up right now - the safari romper and the black/white button front dress :)

Thank you and welcome to all the new commenters!! :)

MHBass, I got the skirt at a thrift store and cut it into a mini.

Daniela haha no not at all! I only went into one for the first time last summer. It's kind of a midrange trendy boutique. They have some cute stuff sometimes, and a ton of JC shoes.

Erika ahhhh you are awesome for having gone, your date sounds so fun..I love being that random. What is Obsolete?

H, I took a couple pictures but it was SO DARK and they didn't allow flash photography. Sucks!!

Greenlady haha no Chanel opening for me! Sadly. All is disclosed now, sorry to leave you hanging!!!I am annoying.

Tine I am having major GH withdrawal, all I do when I listen to songs now is imagine how I would play it in the game. Sick. And do take the bf!!

R sorry about the pics, if you right click and go to view image, does it show up?

Nita :( don't worry my life is hardly perfect either...

Anon 12:05!! Thank you! Do you have the back-blister problem with these shoes too??? I must know, it makes me sad!

Kittykate, let me know how the Kain works out, I'm STILL waiting for my backordered one!!

Abs ooh those are kind of awesome...they remind me of Calvin Klein, I think. Thanks for thinking of me!

Fashion Chalet aww you are too sweet! I'm so trying that smoothie.

Haha Stephanie, slight means it's there but it's not overpowering..I'm just sensitive to it since I don't smoke and thought I should mention.

Aww Toni I didn't get to check out the observatory..next time..

Friar!! I know, I'm still mentally lingering on the weird hoof ones. But I can't find them online! Hahha meatloaf sandwich before Chanel. BTW, I think you are the only person I know that would order that. There was a BIG DEAL party taht night on Robertson for a new Chanel store that we walked by, likely while you were mid-bite. Don't worry, we weren't invited. And ick Michael Bolton, I'm still not quite clear on who he is but I'm glad we didn't see him I think. I totally messed up by not mentioning Jasmine Kelter..how did I not take a picture of that odd creature? Majorly blushing at the Guitar Hero flattery..I got that Strokes song we played and it makes me miss it so! I wouldn't know about drying my hair in a public bathroom though..who would do such a thing, how HORRID, what if someone walked in mid-crouch?? Hahha..and I should have posted the pic of you tree-blending. That was impressive-ish.

Newlyinspired, haha crazy! Are you going to get them?!?

TheFriar said...

Rumi, found it I think:

http://www.urbanoutfitters.com/urban/catalog/productdetail.jsp;jsessionid=5BAE2ED4E95CAB864B1241E3FD4FEFC7.app11-node5?itemdescription=true&itemCount=10&id=14512115&parentid=W_SHOES_ALLSHOES&sortProperties=product.displayName&navCount=364&navAction=poppushpush&color=11

Holy crap thats a long link. Anyway, I think the black is polyurethane and not cloth for some reason. You are forgiven for forgetting Jasmine Kelter. Later!

Rumi said...

Hmm those are the totally tame version of what we saw...there's no hoofiness! I can't find them anywhere on Shopstyle...

Rumi-
I got these in the last size 6 from Nordstrom's sale for only $60! My best purchase of the dwindling days of summer. I get mad blisters from these guys, a quick fix-> wear bandaids/ tape where the shoe hits your back leg, works like a charm. You can't really see it and no pain.
