Back to basics

Ahh everyone's favorite top...simple but brilliant. And perfect for constructing a look when it's @#$*&)@#* too hot to think. I love that it can dress down mostly anything (in this case monumental mirrored heels), and it's a favorite with my first love, denim shorts. This is definitely an outfit that's so simple it can be tinkered with in numerous ways and still be quite fun...Chucks, oversized vintage clutch, woven wedges, tights, studded anything, annoying hat, duh white tshirt, etc. I love basics.

And, my friends, it is a fateful day for me, I have scored a place on the homepage of The Fashion Spot. I'm more than a little stunned to see myself in the cover story flash animation alongside such internet giants as Susie Bubble. I've been lurking and posting there since..2004 or some crazy year, and sort of feel life would not be worth living without it. My frequent forum action has even caused fights with my boyfriend. Kind of sick. Not sure if I mean that in the good way or the bad way. So anyway, THANK YOU TFS!

Top and skirt, American Apparel. Bag, Lucky. Heels, Nine West. Necklace/headband, Banana Republic.

I also fell in love with this top when mk wore it :) I'm going to have to dig it out of my closet! I never would have thought to put it with a bandage skirt but it looks fantastic! Luckily I just bought a white one at AA!

i love it! great great outfit. Always love the pop of blue of those wedges. Last time you wore that sweater/top on this blog was ages ago.

Those shoes are brilliant. I think only certain people, such as you, can make that top look so good.

Ack..had no idea TFS used my article.... I wish I had more time to devote to TFS as it's where Style Bubble was probably born....
Love your Q&A....

Congrats on the TFS article!
As always, I love this skirt.

AH absolutely love that grey shirt i wear it like everyday it can be paired with everything. the slouchier the better.

Delurking to say you have a lovely blog and style. Congrats on your feature at TFS! You definitely deserve it,

this is one of the reasons why I love your blog. the items you wear aren't completely out of reach like celebs or other fashionistas..you wear inexpensive stuff like AA and forever 21 and still you look better than any of them. yay!

beautiful outfit!!!

RUMMMI!!! what size is your top?? i want one like it but i want it all baggy like yours, can you please tell me!!!???
xxx

Madame Izma said...

I always loved this AA tee! is yours a size M or L?? I love how loose it looks on you!

Anonymous said...

I got a medium to get the slouchy effect, if that helps anyone asking...and im tiny so a large would probably do as im smaller than 99% of the population... :) (reading feedback on the items also helps, thats how i decided on which size to get)

Rumi said...

Thank youuuuu

Anon 7:20 it actually stays on REALLY well...better than most headbands and without the mind numbing headache they usually bring along. I just tie the ribbon pretty tightly at the bottom I guess!

MJ yeah I wore it in one of my first outfits posts, good recall!

R..LOVE Ashley, her shoes there are just too good...even though Hills Heidi was seen in them...

Nita, checked out your makeover, looking really good!

Kate, the skirt in white sounds hot..but is it see through??

Susie, TFS is responsible for so much blog burgeoning I think..makes us realize how much of a mad obsession we all have and how much a personal blog outlet is necessary. Thanks for reading the (short!) Q&A :)

Aww anon 7:14....you're too sweet!

Now the two main matters:

I got the top in a large to have it as long and loose as possible. I highly recommend people of all sizes to do the same.

In regards to TFS registration, I just signed out and went to the main page, and went through the preliminary steps of the registration process, which worked...so I'm pretty sure it's open registration!

Anon 10:01...love how they have feedback too..why can't every website be so intrepid..

Goodness Rumi, I visit your blog religiously, so you're a bit of a goddess-y character, but seriously didn't imagine you'd visit mine :| (Yesh, me takes the piccies, and thanks :D)
Love this outfit, great inspiration to drag out that simple tee that didn't really work with anything. purrfect.

Rumi said...

Thank you all! I can imagine Target like Angeline said/any accessory place would have a similar ribboned chain if you want to try this...I swear the thing is quite sturdy if tied right!

Shini your photos are AMAZING..they made me long for the days when I was more into photography in my high school/college era. I love that you shoot such simple things but make them look preternatually gorgeous and color saturated. What camera do you use, if you don't mind me asking?

Anonymous said...

FUCK, youre so damn hot no matter what you wear

kirsten said...

You're certainly right about that AA top, it really does go with anything, its so easy to dress up or down, not to mention the usual level of comfort we have all come to expect from all things Tri-Blend. I have three of this same shirt. I really like that skirt though, its one of the few AA items I don't have yet. And those Nine West shoes are just too cool for words.

Val said...

I adore the look of the raglan pullover (or, thats what i think you have on). I'm deciding to get one for myself, but don't know what color to choose. Very strongly attracted to the gray, but verving away from that choice because i own almost all things AA grey triblend.

I love this look, the heels are fierce.

For anyone who cares, their selling similar chain headbands at jcrew for 6 dollars (on sale) :]

Tash said...

Hey, I really wanted to get this sweater, but I checked out the AA website and most of the reviews said that it was too short that they had to keep tugging it to keep it down and not show skin.

So does yours do that or no? Please let me know cuz I will be reconsidering purchasing this item.

LOVE your blog btw!

Vix said...

I read your Q&A yesterday. I had no idea you were 25?! You look so much younger (that's a good thing!). Your answer for occupation was assistant fashion editor. But for what magazine? And what does your job entail? Is it as exciting as it sounds :)

R said...

E and Rumi, I think you do need an invite to the fashion spot, I tryed registering awhile ago as well, during the part with making a username, it says "Please enter the special invitation code"

Clem said...

I love that outfit ! I already loved blue shoes but seeing it on you makes me wants to have ones myself !

Torrance said...

I think the sweater is too slouchy. I know that when I saw those photos of Mary-Kate wearing it in that hobo-chic way she did, I went out and bought the largest size of it at American Apparel but I realized that I couldn't pull it off... I have too broad of shoulders.

kitty kate said...

the white skirt is not soo see thru...perhaps i will do a pic in my next post. i think a nude thong would be my answer to that! but i haven't tried tucking anything in yet.

Krystal Simpson said...

We have the same bag. I wish I could pull off the skirt, however!

Just discovered your blog...very aesthetically pleasing! I've been deliberating over the AA skirt for a while now, I read some feedback on the website and people have said that it fades a lot and also rides up...what's your experience with it?
