To Luella land!

In the spirit of being random, I decided to try a Luella copycat look . I mean, this Forever 21 skirt just begs for it, no? I have a few ideas for how I'm going to wear it in real life but it's always more fun to play dress up. Outraged to discover I didn't have a similarly campy shirt, I made do with a plain white one, and geared up with a leather jacket, secondhand aviators I took the lenses out of, and a vintage cross-body satchel. The finishing touch was my new Aldo (but very Topshop-ish!) heels, the closest thing I have to Masha's lace-ups. I have no explanation for the 7th grade bear-pack. Sorry. My brother thinks I'm so weird now.

And did everyone else already know that Luella has taken it's wares online? I just found out this week, very cute site. I want it all, please.

i love the bear pack and i love luella, i practically purchased all of her items when she was featured at target a few years ago. one of my favorites was a cherry clutch, with a brown leather fringe. Ohh and that tiny little metal bag ohhhhhhhhh

LUV it!! oh man that bear backpack brings me back to the days when all Id carry was lipsmackers, fun dip and my tamagotchi.

i am so coveting the skirt and shoes! great rendition of the luella runway look.

oh a bear backpack :D my 90s bear backpack is somewhere in the philippines. my parents had a tendency to ship my old luvs to my cousins there as i "outgrew"them. more and more, i'm realizing i should really hold on to things if loved them when i purchased them because i find myself adoring them again or kicking myself for letting them go. the florals have the 90s feel, so i can definitely see where the bear backpack comes in. yes, this skirt screams luella. i'm waiting patiently in the mail for this skirt. sigh... rumi, who is the crossbody bag by? i've been looking for a medium sized one. is this a vintage find? thank you.

Awww the bear pack is cute. The shoes are definitely a great finishing touch to the outfit. Love it.

i answered my own question. it's a vintage find. :)

Rumi,

Reading your blog has made overcoming my shoe addiction extremely hard..and that teddy bear backpack brings back some serious 5th grade memories.

P.S: Wherever did you find that greenish (jade?) ring? Please tell me it's not some vintage gem and us lay-folk can get out hands on one.

i have same kind of skirt and i love it. this outfit is one of your best imo.

A+! the teddy bear backpack is tops. love the shoes as well.

funny...i was going to do my own tribute to luella one of these days! f21 is really doing a number on luella this season....i got my own luella-like skirt a month or so ago. it's kinda like yours, except a little longer.

you did it so well! and made it your own (ie. the bear...)

so gorgeous. i've been slightly fanatic about this luella collection - online store is so exciting! if only i wasn't in want of a CC

also, snaps to you - i've had a love/hate relationship with frilly ruffle skirts but this is making me veer towards the love

Lovely skirt!I like it a lot!And I had almost the same back-pack when I was a kid !

that shirt the model is wearing - i think it's of Enid from Ghost World! and i think i need it. :)

I love Luella, they are such a fantastic label, full of inspiring pieces :)

I agree with Jessi, you look like a very fashionable Ghost World

Gorgeous outfit!

I'm excited that the collection is available online but... I'm so sad the glasses the models are wearing aren't available!!! I've been hunting them ever since I first saw the runway photos months ago! I have no idea where to get them... They're so elusive that I've been questioning whether they're really designed by Luella... ;_;

greenlady said...

haha, im sorry but i do have to say - the bear backpack is slightly wrong... still cute though and I love the outfit otherwise.
I linked you on my blog today - hope you don't mind - our shared love for Clemence Poesy came into play.
Received my 7 in the uzi blue vein ksubis - have to say still disappointed - they are cut much bigger than other ksubis and they are exceptionally long in the leg (and i am quite long in the leg so they would be tragic for someone with shorter or even average legs). Apart from that they are truly gorgeous and even though it gets to me i don't think my life would be as good without them - wore them out last night with verrrry high chocolate brown mary janes, white t shirt and leather bomber and felt amazing. oops. rambling. STILL love your blog.

oh hell that teddy bag is the best thing I've seen for a long time! (Although the shoes are very cool too) =D

Gośka said...

Where did you get your glasses from?

I saw similar ones on Kanye West and I fell in love with them imidiately!!!

Great thing about your style is that you always bring something funny, some sense of humor to your clothes and it makes them unrepeatable :)))

closetbug said...

amazing skirt! I actually saw that at Forever 21 and needed it so very badly.

There were actually two other alternative prints that I thought were very nice, one similar to that but in blue and more floral-y, and another that had less ruffles and larger floral print.

F21 is doing good things as of late. :)

I love your outfit! You're lucky that you say "I want to dress like Luella" and be able to find the things you need in your closet

funny i guess lots of people love that luella look! i bought a really similar skirt in hong kong and had a pair of nerdy glasses (unfortunately prescription for me!) and did a similar rendition of this cute look, of course i did not have a cool teddy bear backpack though :(

Luella was my first thought when I seen that skirt on forever21.com. TopShop made one almost identical to the Luella piece. Love it.

I really love that skirt, I bought it too but because my small frame (5'3") I totally had to get it altered..now Im thinking about just pinning it up at the top though. It fits you at a really nice length and those shoes are too damn cute. Umm only thing is I actually like the graphic tee a lil more...it makes the outfit more interesting, ya know..

Oh yah! I read on a post back you love j-magazines and I ttyl do too. Im def hating on how u have a j-town, as Ive lived in NY, Cali but a long time ago, and now DC (im not old but parents just move around a lot) lol and NONE of those places minus-cali have a j-town! i usually have to wait til my sis gets back from japan to give me tons of magazines(my fav blenda then vivi) BUT look what I found!

http://community.livejournal.com/jmagazinescans

it has scans of a lot of the fashion mags, vivi, blenda, cutie, nuts bah blah, most in .zip files. Enjoy!!

Hi Rumi, I've been an avid fan of your blog for a while. I don't have a fashion blog but only a personal blog on livejournal where I post bits and pieces of fashion. I just recently made some pieces and I was hoping that perhaps you could check it out. I think some of it is quite like your style.

I love the skirt and the shoes! The teddy bag reminds me of the bunny bags Stella McCartney designed for Lesportsac and the one I used to have in elementary school. Ha!

I love the outfit, although being British myself I think that it wasn't necessarily a 'successful' Luella copy... something about the leather jacket and dyed blonde hair, plus the absence of the all-important comic tee puts a more American spin on it. That said, I think it looks about a million times better than if you had just tried to copy it exactly, much more personal and genuine.
