On the newsfront

I am so incognito here. This is what I wore yesterday actually, and it is quite a Monday look - all black (well and navy...and leopard print...ok never mind) and moccasin boots for comfort. Though my newest Starbucks barista friend is now calling me "fashion girl" based on this, even though I was wearing a trapper hat when I encountered him this morning. Quite embarrassing.

And I will just note - SO difficult to try to downsize to a clutch for the day. I'm pretty sure I was entertaining my fellow public transporters as I frantically tried to jam my Gwyn Vogue and largish green apple into it at the end of our ride. But more notably, I saw someone steal a lady's purse on the street! All these shop security guards and burly men started chasing the miscreant and he was caught a block down (a YOUNG boy, all surly looking...but I guess anyone would be surly when handcuffed to a stoplight), but perhaps purses with straps are in fact a better idea! Crazy city.

While I'm rambling and working on this next week's auctions (going up tomorrow!), are there any requests for the store? I mean, not really specific or anything, but anything you'd like to see more of - accessories, sundresses, jackets? Would love to hear your input. By the way, the COOLEST high waisted leather ruffle miniskirt coming your way.

But you know I really wanted to wear my MJs:

Haha, I just read your purse snatching story (that sucks major for the lady), perhaps next time I should read your write-up first.. I know the feeling of witnessing stuff while suffering by on public transit. The other day I witnessed a youngster yelling at a bus driver, something about white trash was heard.. I seriously thought someone was getting punched in that scenerio

You look absolutly amazing. I really really love that outfit. maybe without the minnetonkas, it look better with the second shoes.

I love your blazer! Anyways for your store, if you could find some more floral things, in a Large or even a medium :). I love a lot of the stuff but unfortunately I don't have quite such a slender body such as yourself

This is a great outfit... really everything is superb. No room for improvement :) I really love the gloves, very "uptown" :P they complement the rest of the outfit nicely.

You look great! I dig the oversize clutch, even if it isn't the safest choice :P

No requests for the store--but for the blog!

It would be interesting to see once a week a post about up and coming male fashion for us very few, but faithful male readers.

So cute, I have been looking for this, I need one!

You must (MUST !) tell me where you got those boots from.

Ooh! I love the leather gloves. They're great!

I love the blazer, and the boots in the last picture with the oversize clutch. Understated but very cool.

i love the black and blue combination of colors together. the chanel windows on rodeo did a fabulous black/blue look very early on this year for spring. sorta gives a basic black outfit that extra oompf...

This might be one of my favorites outfits from you!

I like how the navy blazer blends with the black of the outfit, but yet breaks the black color pallete up a bit. inspired..

On another note, I LOVE day clutches. If I didn't have to lug textbooks around on a daily basis, I'd use mine everyday. It's the short handled bags (read: lv speedys and the like) that get to me. I simply cannot deal with them..

I love this whole look. Looks very nice with either shoes but I think the MJ's are especially chic.

I love a clutch in the day time especially when the weather begins to get warmer.

Yeah, black is beautiful <3

Frenchie - you can get those boots anywhere. They're called Minnetonka. zappos.com always has them... You can also get them on ebay.com.

Rumi- love the outfit!!!!!!!!!!!

I hate clutches because I can never downsize all my stuff and fit it into one + I am much more likely to lose it. Go figure.

very cool, i esp like it with the 2nd pair of boots

Rumi, you need jewlery in your store.

I love using clutches for the day, but I agree they can be pretty awkward.

i would like to see more floral print dresses and navy blazers, preferably with gold buttons. maybe some oxfords/brogues?

Gloria said...

another outfit that I LOVE! Was that blazer thrifted?

Bonifant said...

Rumi you need more sizes in your store. I love some of the bandage skirts you have but I definitely can't fit into an XS.

Learned the hard way buying one off of Ebay. Waist was 26 but silly me didn't ask for hip measurements. Needless to say the waist fit great but I could barely zip it up.

where's your hat from?!

My goodness, you look like a model.
I would love to see more 'basics' made into something more interesting.
What I mean by that is like, taking a plain white shirt and making it into something different. Or summer-fying those black minnetonkas since I just bought some (inspired by you) and would LOVE to see a few ways to wear them in the summertime.
I'd also like to see more summery/casual outfits in general.
Don't get me wrong, I ADORE your style. I could never pull off the more 'formal' outfits such as this one though, so I'd like something to mimic when going out to lunch with friends or on a mid-afternoon trip to a boutique.

PS that scarf is gorgeous. And I love your hair. Wanna trade? :]

Hi Rumi,
I'm from Australia and read your blog every day.
We dont have AA over here and i was wondering if you could tell me what dress you are wearing and what sizing you reccomend..
im going to take a leap and try to order from the site!
Thanks heaps :)

i would love to see more blazers in your store, and as for your styling its always gorgeous and such a treat, but would be super cool to see you do some more laid back casual cool outfits, like jeans and jandals, flats, etc etc, i think you have an amazing collection of dresses and shorts but have not seen you in much other than the dark denim (jbrands and some japanese ones). I will get you photos of the ksubi uri blue veins as soon as i get them back - if you order get a size down, i got my usual 8 and had to send back for the 7, they're running large like jbrands sizes. xxxx

Daniela said...

Rumi,
Please indulge me with what dress it is you are wearing from AA......

Hands down my favorite look of yours...EVER! Soooooo chic..you look right out of Devil wears Prada- all those enviously chic magazine editors!

emily said...

i would love to see more florally flowery liberty print-ish dresses, some skirts?
vintage clutches?
vintage jewelry esp bracelets....

great outfit - you've done dark winter colours so well. and now i need some leather gloves!
the whole look is like a pared down givenchy of this season, esp. with the necklace.

also rumi - random question - but i always notice that your posts are often at past midnight - i assume with all your travelling time you have to get up and leave for work super early!! don't you get tired having only about 5 hours sleep??? random question i know but i am trying to figure out how i can get way less sleep and still be energetic!!

Anonymous said...

So classy.

monitors said...

May I ask which AA dress this is? I was looking for one to wear over tights and stockings that doesn't bunch up whenever I walk... all skirts I own do that and it's so annoying!

Anonymous said...

I agree w/ the above comments, and I also think maybe some more high-waisted skirts?

Your store is amazing, thank you for taking these under consideration!

Anonymous said...

I love every dress you put in your store..unfortunatly I am outbid quite often however. more please?

You should put up some jewelry too;)

Oh new favorite!!! Sorry things have been so crazy. Expect an email coming your way.

I love the stuff in your store, but its all so tiny! I know you model all the stuff yourself, but us size Medium girls would like a piece of the great vintage action too! Just something to think about...

Rumi said...

Thank you all, especially for the input for the store, all very good ideas! :)

R, haha scary bus rides are the worst! One time going to the East Bay (let's just say towards Oakland) this guy was cussing so loudly in the back that the bus driver stopped and told him to get out. Which he didn't. Until the police came. Argh on buses!

Belle, haha you're going to hate me - they were on clearance back in February, they actually had a ton of really cute leather styles for $15-$20...

Andy, agree, that's why I made sure to document it with the MJ boots too!

J'aime ta mere, ooh I actually just posted some M/L florals last night, they're SO cute, both in different ways, let me know what you think!

Anon 10:58 and 4:39, haha oops forgot to include hat deets - it's from the men's section of Urban Outfitters..got this one on clearance too..this comment round is making me seem like quite the clearance stalker.

Annabanana, that day it was FREEZING. Like 50 degrees, ridiculous crazy winds. I mean, I know there are colder places, but I'm a brat.

Anon 12:47 aww I have male readers?!? I will try to look out for cool men's things!

Frenchi, they're Marc by Marc Jacobs, they are my love!

Chauss, thankss, haha I love wearing it just to annoy my mom. She can't stand navy/black together and either someone gets it or they dont', you know?

Kim...AGREE on both fronts.

Bonifant, aww that sucks! There's actually a leather skirt up right now that's in the S/M range, included hip measurements too so you can make sure! :)

Anon 4:47 wow..thank you! I'm wayy too short to model at 5'7"...only Kate Moss, man. I really liked your input, I think my non-work style is much more casual and soon I will be able to dress however whenever when I start working remotely, which I'm excited about. I feel like I used to those kinds of outfits more when I first started the blog and would be nice to bring them back, so thank you. Haha and my hair is SO damaged, you don't want it! I need to cut off inches..soon.

Anon 5:46 thank you for reading :) - this is the double u-neck dress and it does run small so if you want it to not ride up all day (well this is going to happen somewhat no matter what size you get but it's lessened) I would recommend ordering a size up - mine's a medium and it works out just fine. I have it in white too but it's so see through it's pretty useless. Not quite sure what I was thinking there. I definitely recommend trying AA out though - some of my favorite items are the salt and pepper hoodie, acid wash deep v-necks, sweatshirt dress, cross-back bras, triblend anything, and the lame tube bra. Awesome.

Greenlady, one more for team casual! I suppose I have been more dressy lately, I feel like all I used to post was denim shorts and white t outfits (how I miss you denim shorts!!), I definitely want to try out lighter denim, I'm dying to see those photos, those ksubis look hot!

Daniela and monitors, it's the double u-neck :) - though it does bunch monitors, sorry! I hate it too :p

Aww anon 8:29 thanks!!

Soo..people want to see the following?
-jewelry, bracelets
-more blazers
-high waisted shorts
-high waisted skirts
-shoes, oxfords
-florals
-clutches
-more sizing options (sorry, I do try to incorporate XS-L, but it can be hard! I've always dreamed of having a M/L model..but there are actually quite a few things up right now in larger sizes if you check! and i will try harder to incorporate) - thank you so very much for your input, I'm excited to be able to put more time and effort into the store once I start working remotely next week, the freedom factor is going to be amazing. And please feel free to offer input whenever! I will be keeping all of these items in mind :)
