Crossing the denim line...

Today, I did something that I probably should be disgusted at myself for, but I'm kind of not . Yes, I mixed denims. Denim on denim. Pseudo-Texas Tuxedo. I should probably be stoned with Crocs and fanny packs for this one but it was kind of awesome. And fanny packs are sweet anyway.

A. Olsen definitely paved the way. This is sort of a Version 2.0 of this outfit from last month.

Pared down.. -

Plus that perpetual essential, the leather jacket - and to reader catpower, this should fulfill your request :) -

Mid-adjustment of cuff..it's always so surprising to see photos of one's hair in natural light, no? -

The final touch..my vintage fringe scarf..and, man, I never realized how unflattering cuffing your jeans can be till I looked at these photos..I mean I still like the look in a don't-want-to-flatter-myself anyway sense..but jeez -

These jeans are one of my favorite pairs I own, I got them at Uniqlo in Tokyo a couple years ago. I had been shopping in the Ginza all afternoon while my mom met with some random people and after browsing designer outposts far too expensive for my blood (one of the coolest Chanel stores I've been to..well Honolulu is alright too..but one shiny department store was selling the MJ Stam for more than double what it is here, insaaane) I had to enter basics heaven ie. Uniqlo so I could dispense some cash and regain my sense of consumer worth. Is it weird that I remember exactly what I purchased? These jeans, a black trench, and a high waisted tulip skirt. The jeans have definitely gotten the most use, my only complaint being that the waistband stretches out after a couple hours of wear and totally needs a belt, most ideally a loud fierce tranny one with metal crap all over it. Must add that to the wishscroll. End ramble.

Denim shirt, secondhand Eddie Bauer (HA!). Jacket, Forever21. Jeans, Uniqlo. Wedges, Kors. Sunglasses, Rayban. Bag, Anna Corinna.

When I first read denim on denim, I thought 'oh no!' but I actually really love this. It just might be my favorite look of yours thus far. Those jeans are perfection.

You should know that I am insanely jealous (in a nice way) of your Ran Bans and Anna Corinna bag. Both of which I have added to my wish [I could afford] list on my blog.

Amazingly, you make it work. Actually, it's not amazing since you basically make everything look pretty awesome.

the title got me worried-but your twist on the unfortunate denim tuxedo worked out well.
double denim that matches on the other hand should be a crime

I think you made it look really good. I mean, denim on denim sounds horrid! But it actually looked pretty put together. :] You are much braver than myself; I don't think I would ever even attempt to wear a denim shirt.

Not extremely excited about it but as its been said before you some how make it work. Throw that effortlessness my way. :)

denim on denim on hot :) :)
love it.
These jeans look surprisingly a lot like J brands - was going to say to you do you realise that cuffind jeans makes your legs look a lot shorter *not you personally people in general) and then kept scrolling....and bang. you realise . I think its actually mainly when the jeans get wider as you cuff, i.e when i cuff my ten inch ankle j brands it is not as bad.
I offered to send you some pics of my ksubi uzi blue veins that you had on your wish list recently but never heard back from you?
great outfit.
also congrats on the teen vogue gig.

When I first read that you were going to be wearing the dreaded double denim in these pics I was filled with dread/anticipation but actually I like the look alot. I think it's due to the fact that it isnt two shades of blue. Great as always.x

This totally works! Suprise. And I love the progression in the pics of putting it all together. I think the accessories really add a lot to the look. I am curious about this belt though.....did you say 'tranny'? hahahaha

I LOVE THIS LOOK! Everything about it from your long jeans to the right pair of shoes, to your white ac tote. It's absolutely perfect. And your rolled-up sleeves on your leather jacket ties it all together. And the scarf. You are awesome Rumi!!!

Other than Crocs, there is nothing I hate more than denim-on-denim, you showed how it CAN BE done! Bravo! ♥ When pairing very, very different shades together, it doesn't even look like denim-on-denim. Again, BRAVO! ♥

rumi i've been wondering, how high are those wedges? anyway, what's more important is that i love the light denim as a "pop" around the black pants & jacket. it looks effortless.

I have those jeans! And they ARE super long and without heels, I have to cuff them too. The amazing thing about uniqlo (in Tokyo at least) is that they'll alter the length for you for FREE right there in the store. I just didn't have time to wait around.

Love your site.
